I have a 99 hatch and was looking into getting headers. Does anyone have any opinions on the Neuspeed N2 headers? DC? Comptech?? Which one is better: ceramic coating or not?

stainless steel rusts very quickly so go with the ceramic. i would have to say that i prefer dc headers.:D

umm.. stainless steel doesn't rust.. thats why its called stainless :P.. it will rust eventually but far after a ceramic coated mild steel one will.. its the whole concept behind the stainless body of the DMC, no rust! what you may have meant is that it will bronze when heat is applied, meaning it will turn a yellowish color.. but thats no rust! SS all the way

i'd recommend the HP racing Stainless Steel Chrome Plated 4-2-1 header.. according to import tuner it made a good amout of hp and torqe, and it only costs $175 from nopi.. the dc SS is nice too but a lil pricey..

What's the point of having the ceramic coat anyway? Does anyone know about the Neuspeed N2 headers?

Hi gang,

Ceramic coating creates a kind of heat shield between the inside of the headers and the outside. This will reduce the overall temperature inside your engine bay.

My opinion on this ?? Get the stainless steel and get also some thermal coat band.
Why ?? Stainless steel because the headers will last mmmuuuccchhhh longer then the others, then isolate the headers with Thermal coat band to reduce the heat inside the engine bay, and to increase the heat inside the headers (better flow).

Be happy :D!

told ya. it might look all shiny and nice in the beginning, but over months it will begin to rust. call almost any shop that deals with headers and they will tell you to go for ceramic.of course its ur car so go with what you like best.:)

What we can do is have conduct an experiement. You buy yourself some dc ceramic 4-2-1 hearders for ur car and YOU buy ME some dc ss 4-2-1 headers, we'll see if mine rust or not :p

lol thanks for clearing that up :D

he can buy me some hp ss ones and he can buy the dc ceramics and we'll see  he can also buy me a rear lower tie bar with the money i saved on buying the hp! :p

Haha! You were the one that really cleared it up. I mean you said it so simply how could they still be unsure of it?

Shit if he's buying you the rear lower tie bars, let him buy me a Greddy SP Catback :D

lol, well think about it.. if we set a budget of $350 and he bought himself the DC Ceramic 4-2-1 two piece header ($321.49) and he bought ME the HP Stainless Steel 4-2-1 two piece ($173.79) thats a difference of $147. the Cusco Lower Rear Tie bar from optauto.com is $86 :D so with the money he saved from buying my header he can use to buy me a rear lower tie bar with 61 bucks to spare! thats a set of Accel plug wires

soo.. i could have a DC ceramic 4-2-1 that will rust on me, or i can have a HP stainless 4-2-1, a cusco rear lower tie bar, and a set of accel plug wires for the same price!!

with his whopping $21 left after buying the DC header, he could buy a neato Recaro cell phone holder and maybe one spark plug..

the defense rests, your honor

stainless will rust eventually but its gonna be a long long time. the car will probably be junk by then. stainless is more of a show oriented style of making a header.

ceramic will rust more easily then stainless because most ceramics headers are made with a mild steel then dipped in ceramic so when the ceramic peels off if it does they will rust much more easily.

ceramic does have the added benefit of redicing underhood temp's but its only in fractions at best and is not the soul purpose of the coating. the coating is meant to keep exhaust gases hotter which keeps them expanded and increases the exhaust gas velocity and promotes quiker evacuation and scanvanging of the cylinders assuming the primaries are the correct size and the primary/secondary or primary/collector junction is designed optimally for the specific flow that will be produced.

if you wanted your header to be ideal you would buy a stainless header and have it coated with a ceramic or heat resistent substance so you could have the best of both worlds.

surgical utensils are made out of stainless steel because it doesn't oxidize(rust)

and riceburnin... hp header comes in chrome... no SS (i've been looking)

just rub isoprophly alchohol on your stainless headers and they wont get rusty looking. no they do not rust they do get brown due to the oil on your hands or dust getting on them and baking down.

The sad thing is, I read through the entire thread and his questions about the brands were never answered.

i have ek9 header on my vti but have been offered used fujitsubo 1 quite cheap. will it be definate improvment ? and would dc jdm header be much improvement ?

bmc2213
05-24-2004, 12:21 AM
i wouldn't think so might depend on the condition and yes i hear good things about the dc jdm's but if they are all the same flow pattern ie 4into1 or 4-2-1 theyre shouldnt be much difference just the condition of the headers them selfs due to age and stresses put on them

im not bothered about how they look under the hood just performance. good thing with ek9 header is that also has stock heat shield.
