Ferrari customer demands refund

crayzayjay
07-01-2005, 09:51 AM
German businessman Joerg Winterberg is either spoiled or trying to commit suicide. The 60 year-old recently purchased a top-of-the-line Ferrari Challenge Stradale and now he wants a refund… He’s miffed because the vehicle doesn’t actually reach the advertised 186 mph top speed – it ONLY goes to 175 mph. Winterberg states: "I could have bought a Porsche for far less and still had the same performance. I want my money back." Ferrari insists there is nothing wrong with the car and refuses to issue a refund.

Serves him right for not buying a GT3RS :p

i would take ferrari to court and sue for false advertisement, that is against the law (im not sure if it is in germany or not), either way id be pissed and stalk the CEO and beat him

and then ferrari engineers would tell you all about how car engines work and show you up for being the brainless twat that you are.

still, i would've gone with the GT3RS as well.

well if your paying almost 200,00 dollars for a car, wouldnt you want it to meet exactly what the company says it will do....if they say it will do 186 mph, then it should

drunken monkey
07-01-2005, 02:59 PM
even though such things such as air temperature/density, condition of engine oil, condition of engine, tyre conditions, wind conditions, road conditions etc, etc all play a part on how fast it can go?

chances are, the car can go 186 mph.
it's just the guy can't get it to happen.

There is no R35 GTR and will never be; the R Chassis died with the R34. The new GTR (Not yet released and likely to top US$75,000 when released) will ride on the V Chassis. A GTR doesn't reperesent better buying either IMHO, anyone who buys one brand new is paying far too much for a Nissan, nor can a GTR give the sheer thrills of an MR Ferrari. I suppose, however, if you only mod a car for numbers then you are correct.

The German guy is a twit, perhaps he should get a clue about engineering before buying what is the pinnacle of Automotive engineering (Before the F430 and Enzo came along).

Thanks for the link. But I'm looking for a more technical explanation of how they bypass all the speed limiters. All I got from the posts was that they sent their ECU's out to get reprogrammed. :(

I take that back about taht being my alst off topic post....

I think it needs to be reprogrammed....It maybe too vital to take out of the car for it may hold other information for the car. I don't know, I'm just assuming from what I read. They "flash" the chip or in other words, reformat it. They delete the current info on the card, then add similar information but different values I guess.

Read ALL the problems it had during testing. About how it started to lose body panels over 230 an the car became dangeriously unstable. HMM I wonder could be some factors. Weight is another. The F1 lighter an Faster and a better daily driver as well.

all factory mercedes, where possible are limited to 155mph. they have an option (not sure if you pay for it or if it's actually done outside of germany where i know it is done) where-by they change the limit to 186. this is what they call removing the speed limiter. i think the 186 mph is chosen as the best top speed because of issues with tyres and the stupid amounts of torque that certain cars have.

by the way, i figured the R35comment was sarcasm....

if that's the one you're talking about then yes, it's limited to around 200mph.
very small and tidy looking car.
there's one in the canada square display/show, around the corner from the zonda, ferrari 612, 430 spider, aston DB9, Vantage and Vanquish and of all things an BMW/RBS F1 car.
anyone in london should get yourself down there and have a look.
there's also an E-type to show you how small sports cars used to be.....

not really. people who buy normal cars like honda's, acura's, nissans, fords, GM, etc aren't spending $200,000+ on it. if it doesn't do exaclty what it claims to do, then for that kinda money i'd be a little pissed. i wouldn't want a refund but i can see where this guy's coming from. i'll put my near 1/4 million dollars towards something that'll do exactly what it's advertised to do. even if the car didnt' really hit the top speed due to wind resistance ro whatever, the speedo should have at least said it.

look what mazda did with the rx-8, it wasn't really putting out the 255 hp it claimed, i forget the exact recourse they had to take but it was something like they had to give people some money back, or the chance to sell the car back, something like that, i think this guy should be entitled to the same thing. he paid nearly $1,000 per claimed mph, give him a few grand back.

and jimster, isn't the new GTR gonna run on the FM chassis?

Porsche
07-03-2005, 03:13 AM
lol, I agree with the guy. In germany where portions of roadway are unrestircted, I'd like that extra 11 mph especially, as already stated if I was paying $200,000 to see that number. Imagine it was a ship, and this ship was rated for a certain cargo capacity, and it happened to sink before it reached that capacity? It's an extreme example, but I'm trying to illustrate that big dollars demand results, when you fail to provide those results or skew them, people tend to and rightfully so be upset. To us it dosen't make any sense, but we're not in a position to comment on buyer's remorse for a 360 CS.

Personally, for that kinda of money, a RUF R Turbo is $15,000 less, and was clocked at 212 mph ON the Autobahn. Looks pretty good too.

Forever eh? Must be tough wanting a car infinitely longer than pre-conception.

Conti GT's are overweight anyways, and mostly props in Hip Hop videos anyways. I still maintain my choice, the R Turbo.

I'm finding everyday I like mainstream luxury brands less and less. Not that they are inferior, there's just too many of them. Case and Point, Bentley (along with countless other elite brands) used to be very low production makers, cranking out maybe a couple hundred units a year. People respected marques bearing the flying B, Prancing Horse, The Spirit of Ecstasy or Raging Bull. Nowadays, every Diva, Hip Hop Star or Pro athlete has one or more of the above, usually with some sort of chromed spinning rims and enough wattage to put on a Ozzy concert. Point is, somewhere along the line, the exclusivity fell off, nowadays, an enthusiast like myself requires something that won't be found on MTV.

I just went way off topic, no intention of hijacking the thread, I may start a new one at this point, but thought I'd share my thoughts.
