hey guys, just a quick question. I'm coming from the dsm world and having owned a '95 eclipse GS-T, i'm used to its speed. But I'm also used to dumping money into the shitpile because it kept breaking on me. So, long story short, the car is for sale and I'm looking for a new toy. I'm not really looking at Hondas since everybody and their brother has one. I have about 7 grand to spend. I found a '97 celica GT for a bit under that, and I love the looks, but 135hp seems hellaciously low, and every upgrade I find for the car is either insanely priced ($500 bucks for a damn header!??) or made by brands like OBX or pacesetter which I know are known for sucking ass. Help me out with some sites or some words of wisdom on what I should do

I have a 1991 Celica Gt. I have done a few mods; got it to close to 150hp. It is still slow, quick off the line, great low end torque, but from 70-100 is tough. If you want a fast celica everyone is going to tell you to either get a GT-4, which is what I am getting in a few months. They are like the GST. 2.0 16v DOHC Turbo 200+hp. They can beat the GST. The problem is in 93 they stopped importing them into the country. I am getting a 91. They have a 3sgte motor which you will hear a ton about. They are tough and can be built pretty easily to 300 or more hp. If you get on ebay or autotrader.com you will find some from early 90's but those go for $7000. I got my 91 gt4 for 6250.
The only advice everyone else will tell you will be to get a 96 or something and do a 3sgte motor swap. Kinda spendy, but worth it when you go to race a corvette and see the look on his face when you win. Whatever you decide to do good luck finding the car that suits you.

a 3sgte swap is quick but you wont be beating any vettes without many further mods.

The weight difference actually makes the gt-4 able to compete with the vette. In a 1/4 mile it could be close, depending on the model. My friend raced a 92 vette in his wolfsburg jetta that had been tweaked to about 180 hp and barely beat him 0-75. After that the vette beat us and got pulled over.........Well maybe he didn't, but we were hoping.

yea the vette must have been messing with you. corvettes run 12 sec. 1/4 miles, a 3sgte will run 14s

The two people in the vette were like, MONDO fat. That might have had a little to do with it. An extra 600 pounds might have slowed them down. HAAA!!!!
