Hey y'all, I was wonderin'... I'm wonderin' what the goin' insurance rates are for someone young tryin' to drive a V8 'Stang. Now I know there are alot of factors that play in... I was just lookin' for a estimate. 'Cuz if I can't afford, I'm gonna go for a V6. After mods, what the drop in power between a V8 'n a V6? Thx.

It depends on a whole bunch of factors:
1. How much coverage?ie full or just collision
2.What year?

Now for my 1996 cobra with full coverage it costs 220 a month while a GT cost 250 a month. So it depends. For the most part I am going to guess that a Gt will cost about 50 more a month, tops. I would go with a 5.0. Parts are cheap for it and it sounds great. And the difference between a v6 and v8 1994-95 are:
1. Suspension
2. Wheels
3. Brakes
4. Back bumper
5. About a second or two in the qmile
6. Not as many parts for a v6

Help with anything else?
The best way to get a cost for insurance is try the popular ones around you. Talk to people with both. Hell go test drive a v6 and a v8.

I live up in Canada so I'll try to convert to US $$ but anyways here's the quotes I got from a local place with full collison and comprehensive (theft, vandalism, etc) and $2 million liability (these three are what most people get up here) with no discounts. These are for a '99 and in US $.
v6 coupe-$1350/yr or $112/month
v6 vert-$1500/yr or $125/month
GT coupe-$1700/yr or $142/month
GT vert-$1850/yr or $154/month
Cobra-same as a GT vert

I picked up a 99 GT vert (my first Mustang, my 4th car) after doing alot of asking around mechanic friends and reading up on owner feedbacks. The general feedback was the GT's and Cobras are very well built and a great bang for the $$ (lots of power and it's fully loaded with options) but the only down fall is the high insurance rates. On the other hand, the V6's seem to have more problems especially when it comes to minor things like sqeeks and rattles. And from experience (rented one on vacation), I will probably have to agree (annoying noises coming from somewhere even though it's low mileage). Plus it doesn't have the power to make it feel like you are driving a sports car and the options are missing. You can obviously catch up HP wise with mods but you could have spent that money on a GT and you wouldn't be missing the options.

Does'nt age matter too? Are those quotes for a middle aged man? Cuz' I'm young, 'n I know it's gotta be more than that. Thx! :bonghitte

Cheap insurance?

1967 Mustang = US$ 100.00 per year via Classic Car Insurance of Texas (3,000 mile cap).

Can't beat that :D

Age doesn't matter here. You get discounts every year you have a clean record starting from the day you get your liscence. I'm 23 and I've already had my 40% discount for 3 years. Anyways, the rates I posted are for the rates for someone with no driving experience which would be what a new/young driver would fit into.
