Okay i'm going to put my 16x7.5 wheels on my 95 grand prix se sedan
my question is what is the lowest profile tire i can go with and still maintain some closeness between the wheel and wheel well i want it to look filled out not like it's got 13's on it or something also how wide can i go without the tires sticking out to the point it looks ugly i'm guessing 225 or 235 but i'm really wanting a little wider than that but not sure how it will look with the rims and the car. please let me know. The reason i'm asking is I don't have the car yet. I'll probably get it next week.

With a 16" rim, a 225/60 tire will maintain your factory wheel gap. A 235/55 or 235/60 will be fairly close. The widest you can go is 245. But the largest profile available is a 50. This dimension will increase your wheel gap by an inch. To avoid the 4x4 look, you'll either need a 17" rim or a suspension modification.

A nice comparison can be found here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Even though you don't have the car you can still play around with how the car will look at either Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/wtpack.jsp) or Discount Tire (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/brochure/interactive/tmpInteractive.jsp).

so the 245 would only drop it an inch thats not bad but would the 245 bulge on a 7.5 rim thats a 9.5" wide tire i'm not a big tire guy. not sure what the seal width would be on that i'm just looking to make this thing look as good as possible and these rims need a lower profile tire. thanks for the help i'll probably go with the 235/55/16's they seem to be about the same as the 245's only a little bit taller

That inch difference may not sound bad, but when you add it to the gap that already exists, it looks huge. Also, there is not much bulge. I have 245/50 tires on my 17x7 wheels right now. Pardon the pic but it's from a disposable camera :uhoh:
