RB26DETT into a 95' 300ZX

I thought I would ask you guys. How much trouble would it be to drop a rb26dett into my Z? and or what changes would have to made?!

I doubt it would be possible, the VG engine is a lot more square than the RB, the VG is a lot shorter in length and height, but wider, this allows it to fit under the lower bonnet line of the Z, if you end up doing it, it'll take some major surgery, but good on you for thinking outside the square:alien2:

Actually its already been done. I've seen pictures, and heard discussions on AF about this exact swap. I'll look for more info.

Well, I'm of the opinion that you can swap anything into anything given the time, patience and money.

As for the VG->RB swap, I don't know exactialy what would be envolved, but I'll see what I can dig up.

i didn't see a picture before..but what do you think about installing supra engine?? both engine can make the same amount of power. like somebody said anything can go, with time and money

got a video for a 300zx with supra swape and upgraded single turbo.

I would say that if you can get a 2JZ-GTE into a Z then you could get an RB26 into it, as I've seen Supras with RBs in um. Like the one Mr. Nagata got pulled over in :D

They put a RB26 in a Z31 300ZX so i think it would be possible , they also put SR20s in almost everything... my favourite is the S13 with RB26DETT... that's the ultimate sleeper...

i saw a magazine article of a Nissan Crew (extremely ugly car purpose designed to be a Japanese taxi) with a worked RB26, huge but hidden fmic etc. that was a sleeper.

interesting idea on the Z, my guess is it would be difficult. why not stick with the VG?

My car is an n/a. I want to go turbo. And, if I was going to do all that work why not save up a bit more money, and sneak in the RB26DETT. Chances are I would have to save up for a while.

Where you gettin a RB26DETT from? I always wondered where to get engines from.

there are tons of companies that impot Japanese spec engines. Look it up on the net.

i posted the same question on twinturbo.net, cuz i m planning on doing the same conversion and have been doing the research for past couple three weeks but havent found any technical info regarding the swap.
so if anyone here knows anything regarding this swap then help us out :confused:

I've been researching a rb26dett swap into my 240z for a some time and have some info that might be useful to you. I japan a z31 300zx had a rb20de in it. So if the mounting location on your z32 is similar or the same as it is in the z31 (I dunno I don't have either) you can use those motor mounts on yours. I know they will work on my 240z. As I'm shure you are aware the GTR is a 4wd vehicle. You have a 2wd vehicle and unless you are being really ambitious and planning to convert it I suggest you also aquire a rb25det transmission and oil pan. You should run stand alone for some flexibilty. Also you will have to alter your drivesaft length most likely to fit with your diff. This is pretty much the setup that I am planning for my z. So it may give you a good start.

Like ya'll were saying earlier, I have seen an RB23DETT in a supra like you said, and a supra in a ZX. There is a Top Secret Supra on www.superstreetonline.com with a RB26DETT in it, twin turbo and it is pushing like 720 HP!! If you can drop that into your Nissan it would be phat. Good luck
