First STREET race in Eclipse

I get up late every morning because i like to thread the needle, i clock in exactly when i'm supposed to everytime, so i have it timed to when i get up and when i need to get there, down to the second. And every morning i'm driving to work, a buddy of mine that i work with always meets up with me just outside of one of the smaller towns on my way there. He's always in one of his two Mustangs, either his 88 GT or his 95 GT. He was in the 95 today, stock auto except for exhaust and DR's.

On to the race-

So we get on the four lane highway outside the smaller town and start heading toward Champaign, i get up along side of him going 60 and look over and nod my head basically saying "good morning" and he does the same. After about 1/4 mile of driving along side one another i get bored cause Man Cow was boring this morning. So i look over and give him the hand gesture to race, he looked ahead, looked back at me and nodded. So we slow it down to 50, and he starts the countdown from 3 with his fingers, i was in 5th gear at the moment, but as soon as i saw three i quickly downshifted into 3rd and took off, he got a little jump, but i pulled him in and started walking him almost immediately. I shut it down around 90 and had had several cars on him. He caught up and we nodded at each other and continued on our way to work.

So not bad for an almost stock DSM i would say. I can't wait to make this thing quicker.

Those 2G turbo DSMs have gnarly top end, even stock, or near stock I should say...I learned the hard way.

ahah good race, i always thougth the 2 gen DSM's have weak top end casue those turbos runs out of steam at around 6K and your forced to short shift. ( well my personal experience with driving near stock ones ) if you though the 2nd gen has good top end with the stock turbo, wait till you drive a first gen.

It seems to have damn good top end, i love messing with some friends of mine who are used to riding in V8's when you have instant power right at WOT in any gear. So every now and then when i get a friend in there who hasn't rode with me yet, and i'm cruising in 5th gear i'll mash on the pedal and be like "WTF dude somethings wrong we aren't going anywhere and i got it to the floorboard" Then they start laughing and saying "shouldn't have bought a four banger" Then when they drop their guard i drop a few gears and gun it...scares the piss out of them when they dont expect it...hehe... Anyway i wont have to drive a 1st Gen because i'll be upgrading the turbo before the end of the summer hopefully.

There's always "hopefully" but never "gauranteed".

Congrats on your "first" street victory with the new car. I'm still dying to get a race with a 94-98 GT stang. Auto/manual/whatever I still want to race one.

nice, welcome to the dsm world

i just got 1 question for ya, why do you have a CAI installed? Is the plumbing actually going down into the bumper? You do have a intercooler ya know.......

by the way, I'll either be running an evoIII or a super20g turbo in a few weeks ;)

Just a heads up, that intake might actually be hurting your performance. The air has to travel through a much further path now, not to mention the bend or bends in the intake pipe. Also, if you accidentally drive through a puddle, you are risking your engine. I REALLY suggest you go back to either the stock pipe or an aftermarket one. Keep the filter, but that CAI is only hurting you!

done and done, i kept the filter but put the stock piping back on

now is there any real proof of this? this is a turbo not a n/a so when your boosting, an extra 10 inches isn't goin to matter too much. also according to jim wolf, the MAF is suppose to be 18 inches away from the turbo. not to mention the area around the exhuast manifold and hte turbo is extremely hot. so your basically taking in 200 degree's air into the intercooler instead of 80 degree air into the intercooler. so of course the temp that goes out of the intercooler is goin to be cooler then it would be if it was with a regular intake. this is basically the same principle as why turbo cars loose so much power in the summer.

all nsport turbo kits comes with this, my car originaly had one on as well. i got rid of it becasue of water damage. of course the best way would be to build a sheild around everything.
