what does everyone think of the new MIVEC the decided to put in the new eclipses? personally, i am all for it, being as it boosts max HP +53 (210 - 263HP). i would like to have one in mine!!

but also, who likes the new body styling? i prefer the 2000 - 2005 style, not nearly as girly.

what are your opinions?

first thing....the new eclipse doesnt have VTEC. its MIVEC. do not compare the eclipse to a honda.

second....there has already been 5 topics on what everybody thinks about the new eclipse body style. this is the one with the most replies..

I'm with you, I definitely prefer the 2000-2005 body.. But I personally like driving the 06 eclipse. I think it drives better than mine, but I am not going to drop 20 grand on one now.

The main reason it feels better to drive is prolly suspension and LSD. I also hear they tightened the stearing on it, made it more crisp.

and a big thing is the cars weight is more balenced.

While sounding similar, MIVEC and VTEC work a bit differently.

That aside, I own a GT 4th gen. Essentially, when you go full throttle, MIVEC kicks in at or around 4,000 RPM by shifting the valves (very, very rough description of a complicated system). Peak power is achieved around 5,400 RPM (varies slightly by car).

My manual hit the dyno (before the CAI) at 251whp, however others have run 245 with MTs. Automatics pull about 225-230 on a good day. The car is worth 22k for the V6 manual, but the aftermarket is still slow to get started.

VTEC and MIVEC are the same. just by a different company that calls it a different thing. both have to do with the cam profiles. both control the valve timing and lift during acceleration. when a certain RPM hits, the cam profile is changed to one that will give more power. the more efficient cam profile is made for fuel economy, and the more aggressive cam profile is there to produce more power.

I've yet to have much of a problem in that area; sticker is somewheres around 18/25, but after I installed my CAI, I get around 22 city (depending, obviously, on how I drive that tank of gas).

For a detailed description on how MIVEC works:

and VTEC:

As I said, sound similar, work similar, but a bit (as in small) difference. They are not exact, but pretty close.

I bought the 2006 Eclipse GT (manual trany) back in August and I love the thing. But it is a bit thirsty when it comes to fuel. And it's premium at that. But is one fun car to own...that's for sure!!
