Disable lockout safety feature

Has anyone been able to disable the lockout safety feature on the drivers lock? The feature that forces you to use the key to lock the door. It makes sense, but quite honestly it's getting annoying and in my previous 15 years of driving, I've never locked my keys in the car.

Part of the car's engineering. I find it to be cheap insurance since no one will do a copy of the key...

Yes. I have a 2008 Aveo and this "feature" really annoyed me. It's fairly easy to disable, if you have any mechanical inclination. Take the door apart, and look under the locking mechanism using a mirror. Pull the door lock up while looking for where it hits. It's a small little plastic tab (mine was grey). Once you find it, cut it off. Problem solved.

PS - Standard disclaimers apply. Do at your own risk; you try this and really mess things up, too bad; etc.

Yikes. A 3yr/old post here! Good info though mlerczak. I see this as a smart feature. I haven't seen it on cars since the 1980s. Not only will you never lock your keys in your car w/ the OEM setup, but you can 'test' for a frozen lock before you lock the car up. Very handy in the rust belt.
