Scavenger Effect

Hope someone can help me. I have a KKM Cold air intake and my exhaust system is straight pipes from the headers back the cat and resonators were cut out and straight pipes were put in and magnaflow mufflers I have a IAT sensor chip in so more fuel gets pushed only on WOT but none the less it seems that my car is slow when accelerating instead of being faster it is a noticable difference is having no back pressure causing this or the flow sensor in the exhaust the problem or what. Currently there is no check engine light on in my car. Another Question is if the IAT sensor stopped functioning all together would the check engine light come on, or if the flow sensor in the exhaust stopped working would the check engine light come on. Is there any way I can test Horsepower to without dyno.

Thanks for anyones help.

Seems to me you've done some awfully advanced work, but you're asking some basic questions...

If you ARE, in fact, running headers, and they were designed properly, you shouldn't have to worry about scavenging. The headers will scavenge exhausting chambers. That siad, I've been looking for headers for three years...who did yours? How much?

Less restriction often means less torque, but more HP.

I'm not familiar with this IAT sensor.

Are you running any data logging equipment or at least a wideband O2 sensor? If not, you are throwing darts in the dark.

Im sorry nothing about new headers everything is stock except for the cat and resonators were cut out and straight pipe put in to replace the sections and magnaflow mufflers but I was told that if the air flow blows by the flow sensor to fast then the ecu automatically ajusts the power band.

You had some kind of aftermarket flow sensor installed in the exhaust pipe?

Or, are we talking about the MAF sensor in the intake tube?

"IAT" means Intake Air Temperature in my tuning software. I believe the temperature is mathematically derived from the MAF sensor, but there may be a separate temp sensor. I've not had to dig into this system.

You pulled the cats and (at least) the rear set of O2 sensors, so what is the PCM using for O2 signals?

Did you also remove the H pipe?

I know what the IAT and the MAF is I thought there was a flow sensor in the exhaust but maybe only O2 sensor. I have not looked under there. Is there any other sensor in the exhaust besides the O2 sensor

The H pipe was removed and made true dual. The O2 sensor is in Place the check engine light is not on. Tell me more about this wideband O2 sensor I think the O2 sensor instead of flow sensor. Is this done using the SCT Xcaliber. My next purchase is that SCT Xcaliber for the LS and a G-tech to make sure my mods are not decreaseing power.

Are there after market fuel injectors for the 2000 Lincoln LS and if there is where can I purchase them and has anyone replaced them yet also fuel pump / regulator.

Nobody has yet found a need for upgraded injectors or pumps and there a few guys running nitrous or reground cams and ported heads. Don't worry about it.

There are no other sensors in the exhaust path other than the four O2 sensors (two before and two after the cats.).

Removing the H pipe cost you some power. Unless you plan to have some 180-degree/long-tube headers fabricated, you should replace it with an X from Dr. Gas, Basanni, or Magnaflow.

"Wideband" is shorthand for a wideband O2 sensor/controller package. One of the most popular is the Innovate LM-1. Google "wideband O2" or the innovate and you'll find everything you need.

The Xcalibrator is the equivalent of a "chip" for the latest-generation Ford vehicles. We no longer actually use chips, so the Xcal actually reprograms the PCM. It come with three pre-configured tunes in addition to the factory tune. You can also buy separate software to write your own tune.

Thanks alot for the info man.
Appreciate it!

I have a IAT sensor chip in so more fuel gets pushed only on WOT

This isn't the IAT thing from Ebay is it? If so, remove it and see if you have an improvement.

BTW, the MAF does not calculate the air temperature. It only calculates the amount of air passing through the sensor. The IAT is an important sensor that the computer uses to decide if it needs to 'pull' timing and fuel or add. Obviously, different amounts of fuel and timing are needed at 15 degrees as opposed to 115, so you want the stock sensor 'unmodified'.

get that IAT 'chip' out of there. The old 'racer trick' of fooling the computer that it's -40 outside to dump more fuel in does not work on these modern cars, the PCM will simply determine that the sensor is bad over time - refusing to

Use the XCalibrator to recurve the fuel/spark properly.

I run a Granatelli Cold-Air Tuned MAF and I would not recommend it for the dollars spent. We have never been able to push past the stock MAF, injectors or fuel pump yet. And without forged internals - it's unlikely we wili....

Thanks Quik_Ls I can't wait to get the SCT XCalibrator to flash the PCM, Have you had any problems since flashing yours, I did read that you had to pull some fuses to flash, any other problems besides this and which fuses did you have to pull. I have 2000 V8 w/ 52,000 miles, I store it during the winter. Dark Blue with mirror tint and 17 in. 5 spoke impala rims which I sanded down and painted with caddilac white mixed in 5 parts purple and 3 parts orange then clear coated like 5 times and they are 5 years old and still look great. Brake dust love to attach itself to them though.

1.) KKM True-Rev Sport Induction Kit
2.) Cold air ducting for intake system
3.) Resonators & H pipe cut out also magnaflow Hi-fo mufflers
4.) SCT XCalibrator to flash PCM (this week or next)
5.) Eibach lowering springs

Anything New in the tunes that come with the Xcalibrator?

How much would you expect to pay to have someone change rear gears to 3.58? I know it would make it quiker but not add HP. I'd like to think I know alot about vehicles but I don't think I could do that myself never done it before.

Anything else anyone suggest besides a shot of NOS Plan on driving this vehicle into the 200,000 mile range I have never had a single problem with this car except for stuff I broke trying to modify it. I have done all the work on this car myself, I have learned alot along the way.

SCT has fixed the problem with the fuse pulling. You do NOT have to do that anymore. It was only on their first batch of flashers. I've had mine for about 7 months and love it. You won't be disappointed with it and flashing tunes is very easy.

I would guess a gear swap would run about a grand with parts. I bought a used pumpkin with 3.58 gears from greenleaf.com for about $350, but never got a chance to install it. Was going to put in a Torsen limited slip diff, but I donated the whole mess to the club for development. I just don't have time to mess with it.

Thanks for the info I definatley wouldn't be able to take that on by myself.

What's the status on that Chris? Any break throughs with it or is it just sitting in Brian's garage?

They have had it less than a month. I was lazy about getting out there. The So Cal guys are going to get together some time before long and get started. Rancho FLM is probably going to help.

Not sure what the timeline looks like, but it's casual.
