Ordered headers 20 minutes ago, happy as shit let me tell you? Quick questions though, when putting the headers gaskets on, would i need a gasket sealant like i you need for the tranny pan, valve covers, etc.?

I can give you some brownie stripes?
Or SS as i put it and I don't mean super sport.
No, you don't use and sealer unless you wanna have the funkiest smell you ever imagined possible.

HAHAHAHA LOL!!! Hey wrightz28, do you have pics or know where i can find pics off the exhaust setup on 3rd gens? I just need to know where the all the hanger and clamps go. My cat is hanging near the ground and i don't know if it's a clamp or a hanger that holds it up (i'm just being lazy, i really need to just jack it up and look at it). But what is the item called that holds it up? Also, what oil filter to you, or anyof you perfer for our cars? I remember reading that k&n oil filters stink compared to others (can't remember), but what do you guys suggest? I figure that much about the sealer, just wanted to make sure. Brownie stripes will do!!

Alrighty then, I just cracked juicy ass in you honor.
As far as the hangers go, you'll have to use your judgement. I don't have a stock system on my car so pictures would be of almost null value to you. Hell, I can't even get jack under the passanger side unless someone's lifting up on the car.
You should have tabs on the underside for the rubber boots to slide on to for the hanger. If they rusted out you s/b able to have some welded on for dirt cheap.
All my maintnance items are ac/delco where possible. I've hear some ugly things about fram so I'd stay far away.

Getting some delco plugs later on today, i'll pick the filter up aswell. I heard the delco plugs are the best for our smallblocks, from you, my father, some guy at autozone, and several other people aswell. Can't wait til i get them on. When you installed yours, was there a noticable difference in performance?

the plugs or headers?
headers were already in the car when I got it, freshly installed at that. But this is my second 85 camaro, and yes they flow much better than stock. My brother in law has a GTA with a 350 and can't believa A: my 305 has more noticable throttle response and B: sounds better. But, then again, I'm pulling and exhausting more air so there you go.

no sealer on header gaskets, get copper exhaust gaskets and bolt em down.
for spark plugs, go AC Delco or Bosch platnum. either will work just fine.
oil filter, i always have and always used AC Delco units, i believe it is PN 454. they stopped making the 1218 a while ago.
the reason your catalytic converter is hanging is that it isnt mounted to the transmission mount. Same thing happened to my IROC. Someone did a hack job and threw away that tranny mount. The mount is hooked onto the tailshaft housing of the tranny, the only other mounts are back on the muffler and tail pipes.

oh and even if you have that hanger on the tailshaft housing, you need a direct bolt in converter, with the same mounting flange as the factory unit, many universal fit converters dont have the nessesary flange to bolt onto the hanger.

Yeah, that exactly where it is broken too (last time i checked). How much gap should i give the plugs, the factory spec on the sticky under the hood or is there something else?

Also, could i use the existing flange or will i/can i purchase anew one? I bought a catco cat, universal, 3"in to fit my setup.

im not sure where you would get the bracket, ive been checking the local junk yards. although you could try the dealership, but it would be a long shot. as far as the cat, if you have a universal, it wont work, because the bracket for mounting the converter is actually part of the converter. not something seperate.

Damn, so what do you suggest i do? IF worse comes to worse, i could just do straight pipe, what pros and cons can be had from it? Emissions isn't a problem.

well, even with a strait pipe, your gonna have the same sag problem. i would get under the car, and take a look around, try to find some sort of flange with a bolt hole in it. then you could fabricate your own hanger using a peice of bent flat metal, and an exhaust clamp. mount the top of the hanger to the bolt hole on the tranny or car, then bend it down next to the exhaust pipe and drill two holes in it where the u - bolt of the clampwill pass through it. and bolt it together. it should provide the same function as the factory piece.
