the ac just stopped working on my old 87.
the light for the switch comes on, but no cold air, looked at the ac clutch and it does not engage.
I've read on this form about some type of low side cutoff switch that might have got tripped if r-12 is too low. Where is this at, and how can i fix this.
Thanks much

The pressure cutoff switch turns off the compressor clutch when the freon gets too low. It turns on about 24 psi and shuts down about 48 psi. The switch could be bad and not allow the clutch to turn the compressor. OR The freon may be too low (less than 24 psi) to allow the clutch to come on. Also, the fuse may be bad or the clutch itself may be bad. Then, there's always the possibility the compressor may be siezed up. I'd take it to an AC specialty shop and have them put the gauges on it and pinpoint the problem. This may prevent a lot of grief in the future and save you money in the long run.

And take this opportunity to convert the system to R134a refridgerant. Will save you money.
