rainy day noises

Hello I was hoping somebody can help me with a problem. I have a 1994 Grad Marquise with about 105,000 miles on it. I’ve started to have an engine noise, kind of a whirring wining noise that keeps tempo with the engine (when the car accelerates the noise accelerates) I usually only get the noise after a rain storm, and the noise wont start until after I take the car past 5-10 mph, but after the noise starts it will continue even if the car drops back to an idle. Also If I do a few hard accelerations the noise will go away. Anybody have any ideas as to what this could be, if its something serious, and how I can remedy it?

Start by taking a close look at your serpentine belt. When they get some miles on them they can get noisy even though they look ok at a glance. While you have it off, check your idler and tensioner pulleys. Spin them by hand with the belt off and see if they sound dry. They are relatively inexpensive. The bearing in them is sealed and cannot be lubed. Spin your alternator by hand and your other belt driven accessories as well.

Another thought - Is the noise by chance coming from your radio speakers. Even with the volume down you probably have an amp that could be picking up ignition noise. try spraying your plug wires with a water bottle (to simulate the rain) and see if you get any arcing.

Let me know if any of this helps. Good Luck!
