98 Ford Explorer

I have a problem with the overdrive light flashing periodically in my suv. It doesn't happen all the time but it is happening enough to drive me crazy. I took it in for a diagnostic test and they are telling me the code is a 701. They would not be able to tell me anymore without taking the transmission out. What is up with that? The truck drives fine. What should I do.
