trans line issue.

I have a 97 cherokee that i just bought and it has a small leak on the trans line where it connects from line to hose(just before radiator)I was told by the dealer and a repair shop that it is a high pressure line and has to have the whole line and hose replaced. But I was also told by a auto supply store that I could cut the area where the leak is and replace with correct size fuel hose and make a tight connection with a couple clamps to seal and hold it.(the same as hooking up an aftermarket transcooler, right?)So, is this a high pressure line that has to be completly replaced or can this be patched so to say?

Ypu, I have patched lines like you describe lots of times. A steel line is safer and less likely to get damaged or torn while off roading, but a hose is fine.
A fuel hose will do but low pressure power steering hose is stronger and better for this application.

Steal is best. Simple and cheap hose and clamps will work in many case. But it can pull off. Leave a lot of slack in the hose maybe a loop if needed. Tie it up and happy trails

It's not a "high pressure" line..... they wanna sell you stuff you don't need.

You're on the right track with the hose clamps..... I would use double clamps just for peace of mind.

Pwr Strng return hose is what you want.... supposedly (myth?) the tranny fluid, over time, will degrade the rubber in fuel line hose.....

If you wanna stay "stock", check out a local salvage yard for a new line.

thanks everyone. I figured I'd try to do the patch fix first ,went to autozone and got a length of trans hose and all is well. Double clamps/no leaks. Taking the dealer line back ($60.00)
