a little bit more. I got the fuel rails reattached and plumbed. I also made the fuel regulator. It is from square stock, aluminum tubing, and a straight pin. comments and criticism welcome. enjoy

such horrible detail, just j/k looks great, keep it going, it seems like its a tedious effort with all the scratch building, but it will pay off in the long run. Im really diggin the fuel rails, and regulator.

well my package finally arrived!!!! got 3 new needles and 3 new tips for my pasche. some tamiya paints, a humbrol metal cote. some styrene rod and some PE parts for my wild side monte carlo, and a package of .005 styrene sheet. Well on to the update. I started testing some heat staining on the headers and exhaust portion of the turbos. What I came up with is a base of tamiya titanium gold, with 2 coats of tamiya smoke. I think I'll add one more coat of smoke to the whole thing. and then another coat or two to the exhaust housing of the turbos to give them a cast iron look. on to the pictures!!

thanks dave. The set up I am going to create is a Dry sump type system. I'm using an electric sump pump. no pictures yet. Im working on the plumbing of the oil lines. I also need to start on the Ignition system. It will be a front mount crank fire magneto system.

I got some new pictures of some work. You can see the oil pump, and the one line I have plumbed thus far. There still needs to be one more going to the pan and then I'll have one plumbed to the bottom of the oil tank. Hopefully you can see the line on the air intake going from the intake to the fuel pressure regulator. I'm also thinking about adding some EGR sensors for a data acquisition system. I need to go by radio shack and pick up some detail wire. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think. and any suggestions you have.

thanks wayne. I used a front mount crank driven distributor/magneto, so I used the top point as #1. I've got the oil system plumbed, the only thing it lacks is the line coming from the tank, which I'm still waiting on from best resin. I go the distributor on and wired. I think I need to repaint the plug cap though. comments and criticism please!!

hopefully I can get more pics up tomorrow. AS with all of my projects, no matter how much mock up I do I seem to run into some sort of snag. I went to test fit the motor and the oil pump was in the way.....I pondered the issue for a bit and realized....its electric...it doesn't have to be mounted to the engine. lol. so it is now mounted to the frame rail. and I am re plumbing everything. The turbos are now in place along with the motor in their new home. I've got the waste gate and down pipe in place. The waste gate is kind of large so I'm simple going to use a cross over pipe from one turbo to the other and have one wastegate between the two. it all still needs heat staining. but it is coming along nicely. I've also got to write a letter to Mark at best resin, I heard his computer crashed and fear that is why my package has yet to ship. I've been waiting since the end of august, and more than half of the order was parts solely for this project.....If anyone has some good pictures of the electronics on these things would you be willing to share????

Jurva

Are you going to build BOVs? Some drag cars do not have them because they lose some pressure.
That one wastegate sounds cool. Like in F40.

Your turbo setups looks interesting. And the motor too.

Jurva, there will be no blow off valve. all that is left under the hood is the fuel cell, radiator and cooling system, the oil tank, and the intake piping to the intercooler, and then it is on to the interior

Jurva
09-27-2005, 10:13 AM
Just curious, how do you plan to route intake pipes?

white97ex
09-27-2005, 04:45 PM
notice how the compressor piping (to intake/intercooler) from both turbos is joined. They will form one pipe going to the intercooler through the firewall. they will enter the intercooler from the bottom, and leave through the top and then from there into the intake from the back

white97ex
09-30-2005, 09:47 AM
All turbo piping has been completed on the engine side of things. I got the intake piping plumbed to the fire wall last night. The wastegate is plumbed. All the turbos lack now is one down pipe, and the hardlines for the oil. Generally underhood all that is majorly missing is the oil tank, gas tank, radiator, and all related lines. Question, do these guys ever run electric fuel pumps? Something similar to what a street car would run. I know they'd have a LOT larger capacity. But I havn't found a whole lot of good reference for this area. also got the exhaust gas temperature sensors in. they are simply guitar string glued in place, and all but the tip painted black to simulate heat sheathing. on to the pics. comments and criticism always welcome!

are you referring to the intercooler? if so, yes there will be one. It will be placed in the passenger side of the car. The cooling teqnique for that is to fill it with ice before each run.

nothing new of late. I got some new parts from TEM some transmission kits, and their reference CD. This CD is AMAZING. I recommend it to everyone doing a pro mod with LOTS of detail. It really sorts a lot of questionable issues out. I also got an email from best resin, and hopefully my parts will be arriving in the next week or so. The had some trouble with a fill in mail courrier who is no longer with the postal system. lol. Once that stuff arrives, I should have all of the peices to finish of the oiling system, including the oil plumbing to the turbos. Then all I will need to do is build the fuel cell and miscellaneous items for the cooling system and then the engine detail will just about be done. I also have a set of the new style 5 star front wheels coming from them as well, so hopefully, the whole front of the car from the firewall forward will be finished in the next week and a half or so.....so stay tuned for more

I totally agree on the CD... mine arrived yesterday and it's awesome. Answers pretty much any question on how a pro-mod is put together. Now I just need some time to build one :banghead:

these things take LOTS of time. I would HIGHLY recommend sourcing ALL parts that you will need for the build before you begin. It will keep you from getting ahead of yourself. It also sucks to have to wait for a month or two for some parts to arrive.

Well, its been a while since I've had enough time to accomplish anything worth showing on this beast. I've been under the weather the last couple days and was able to piddle around with it some. I've gotten the electronics in place. 3 timers, and the data acquisition/control box, and the Koni shock control box. The fire suppression system is started. I got the pull knob mounted by the driver cage, as well as the lever for the parachute. I took a few liberties, the lines for the controls for the shocks were left in white, so as to help them stand out against the gunmetal cage. I also spent some time on the trans and accompanying hardware. All that is left is to finish detailing the CO2 tanks (do they use one or two tanks?) and then that will be complete.....I've been toying with the idea of making some HIGHLY detailed turbos. I've been acquiring reference for them. And hopefully sending them to TEM to be cast. I've contacted Chris about the matter and am awaiting his response.

Here is what I've got left to accomplish on this beast,

Skin the interior
Mount the seat
Finish out the firewall
Complete the Body (upon its arrival)
Oiling system
Finish the Fuel system
Turbo intake and exhaust
Mount the intercooler
Run the lines
Steering
Guages
Finish fire suppression system
Miscellaneous details

When I go to the Lone Star NNL next saturday I'll be picking up the rest of the stuff I need from Best Resin. (oil tank, dual battery set up, moder front wheels)

Well enough babbling and on to some pics. Comments and Criticism is welcome.

Looking good. What transmission that is. It looks nice too. What did you use for explosion cover?

white97ex
10-29-2005, 05:33 PM
the transmission is a unit from Top End Miniatures (http://www.topendminiatures.com) it is one of their 3 speed kits. The blast blanket is medical tape from the local Wal Mart painted with flat black. all of the lines are made from .01 styrene rod. this stuff is great. it is paintable therefore you can use it for lots of little wiring jobs. its great if you don't want to spend lots of money on detail wire.

I have since gotten the driveshaft and scatter sheild in place, as well as the intercooler and the piping going to the engine

Well, finally something finally worth showing. I finally got my stuff from best resin. and let me tell you. Well worth the wait. The wheels, the oil tank and the twin batteries should be enough to get this thing well on its way to finished. Tonight I got the oil tank in place, the drivers side suspension back in place. I got the oil lines for teh turbos in place. the radiator is mounted. and the wires ran for the fan and the oil pump. they will run up the a pillar post of the roll cage to a switch box.....I got all of this mounted. But I'm still waiting on the body, and hoping and praying that it all fits under the skin. The front wheels have been chromed.... anyone had any experience with the Duplicolor Chrome? If so, Is there any way to clear it so as to keep it shiny? well on to the pictures. Comments and criticism are required!!! lol.

well, I got word that my copies of the body will be arriving in the next two weeks. I had a chance to look at a pair of these things up close and personal at a local toys for tots drive. It really helped me nail a few things down. I havn't done much lately, and no pictures to show, but I have got the main panel in place under the car, it is going to all be CF. There will be crush-type panels that mate the bottom floor pan to the body, this is mainly done so I can get a little more done while the body is out. With the floor pan in, I can start running things like the fire suppression and the like. With class wrapping up in the next week, look forward to seeing some major progress on this thing, and hopefully my 87 wrangler monte carlo and all of the other stuff that I have managed to overload myself with throughout the semester!

well, you can count this one out of the contest. I just dropped it. I bumped a wall transporting it from the kitchen to my modelling room........the rest is history. the motor came out, one of the headers broke off. all of my intercooler piping broke off, one of the rear shocks disentigrated, the whole front suspension is gone. So, I'm going to start over. The chassis didn't fit the body very well anymore anyhow, and the intake was too tall for the front clip to clear. With me just starting back to class, it looks like this will be an even longer road than I had anticipated. But I will take what I learned from doing what I had up to this point, and improve on it.

Well, I'm not sure what went wrong. But I went to re-work the rear suspension, and realized that the cage sat too far back to allow proper fitment of the rear wheels. So.....De Ja Vu. I started a new cage. There were some things that needed corrected with the old one as I would try and correct them, it just ruined something else. So, I started over. I've gotten the lower rails and the outer portion of the cage done, no pictures as of yet. I'm hoping for some time to work on it on sunday.
