My question is, will a MKIV Non turbo SUpra Five speed transmission mate up cleanly to a 2JZGTE twin turbo motor?
My contacts in Japan state that it would, however the "experts" in the US say that it won't?
I understand the non turbo 5 speed won't hold up to more than 300hp, my motor is going to stay stock for the time being.
Any expert advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks! :sunglasse

Yes, the 5 speed n/a tranny will hold but it depends on what your planning on doing with the car.
The transmission will hold up to about 400hp and after that, it's just a matter of time before it gives. could be a month, could be years, who knows. Those manual trannys were not designed to take boosted applications, hence they will not hold for long.
I would suggest finding a good auto tranny and building that since it basically will hold to about the same if the tranny is stock. or lok for a 6 speed tranny but they are hard to come by in good shape and on top of that they are rather expensive.

Thanks very much for the clarification. I'm dropping the JDM Aristo 2JZGTE motor in a 72 Datsun 240Z. I only plan on pushing around 330-350hp for the time being. I'm sure the power to weight ratio will provide awesome performance in my 1900lb 240Z. I'll buy time until I come across a decent 6speed Getrag before putting on the T51R turbo kit :grinno:
thanks again

If your planning to push only that much, you really don't need to waste money on a turbo kit. The stock twins will push that easily and efficiently. I'd stick with them for the time being. You really only need a full exhaust and a front mount with 18 psi to push 350hp. But that's my oppinion. Hope it doesn't give you too many problems.

That's my plan for the short term, just want the motor planted so I can jet around until I find a 6speed Getrag, then the T51R turbo setup goes on :naughty: I bought the entire turbo kit in Japan for $1500 used. I'm getting an APEXi PowerFC programmed/wired for the JZ161 ECU harness.
Future upgrades are going to be 1000cc injectors, HKS cams and other goodies.
thanks for your input

I agree with you, though there is a guy here in Dallas that put a stock 2jzgte in his NA supra, and the killed the tranny at stock boost levels in about a month...
