Pulsating brakes

Hello out there.
I have a 99GT and I've just done the front brakes, rotors and pads, the old ones where shot and braking is much better now however when braking at hi speed there is a slight pulse at low speed you don't feel a thing.
The back brakes weren't as bad as the front so I didn't replace them.
I didn't use cheap rotors so I'm hoping thats not the problem.
But the problem is how do I tell where the pulsating is coming from? could it be the back brakes?
If it is the front wouldn't I feel something on the steering wheel? because the steering is smooth even though I feel the pulsating while stopping, its seems impossible to tell which wheel is the culprit.
I know the simple solution is just do the back brakes but I'd hate to do that and find out it was the front.

Hey Wylie. Had the same problem on my Regal LS. I procrastinated on the rear disc pads and rotors. As a result went through 2 sets of rotors and pads on the front. Seems like the front were overworking due to the imbalance. When the rear brakes are up to snuff it takes the load off of the front. The pulsating or modulation I was getting was actually from the front. On the final repair I had all 4 rotors turned down and installed medium quality pads all around (Duralast brand) and its worked like a champ since. Good luck!

OK what I did here in order to eliminate the possibility that it is the front brakes I pull the calipers and rotors off clean the hub and all the parts like new and put every thing back together."still pulsating"
And because I don't feel it on the steering wheel I'm assuming it is the back how ever the backs don't look that bad.
Because I don't have any time at the moment to do the back myself I took to a brake shop around the corner
The guy there told me $200 rotors and pads, OK that sounded fair.
Now the guy calls me with the bad news, He says the sliders are seized? and because of that the pads on the outside look OK but the inside where down to the metal.
So I'm looking at around $400. WTF?
I've never done the brakes on a GP before, What sliders is he talking about?
.
Just got it back brakes are working like new $300 I guess that wasn't to bad I just wish I had time to do this stuff my self.

Down here we all head over to Juarez, Mexico every now and then and get plastered on Carta Blanca, Tecate and Dos Eckes.
A lot of people pass out crossing the bridge and never make it to their cars. :lol2:
Good to have a designated driver or just spend the night in a whore house......lol.

anyone know if you have to replace the rotors on a 2003 passat when you replace the pads! the dealer told me that you must do both, only 35000 miles on brakes!

Is the Passat still under any bumper to bumper warranty? If it is let them replace the rotors too. I used to own a an Audi quite a few years back and just had the rotors turned down when I put on new pads. Don't recall any problems and sold it to my brother. He never complained about the brakes. :dunno:

Im not sure of Passat (VW)...on my car i did all 4 rotors and put in ceramic pads....i got Wagner rotors for $30 a piece...most places wanted between $75 and $150 for the rotors...i got a deal....only thing is that you have 35k...brake pads can go bad at this milage...rotors can get glazed and slightly warped at this milage too....but...you should at least be able to get one cut out of them, todays rotors are not as thick as back in the day...used to be you could get 2 or 3 cuts before you have to replace....as for how to remove...i dont know...your better off going to a VW forum....alot of later model GM cars have hubless rotors and can be replaced real easy
