flickering?

Ok... I have a '95 3kgt base, and its been great, but there is one problem I can't seem to fix. Occasionally, while driving at night, I'll notice my lights flicker. They don't go all the way off, they just get dimmer, then brighter, then dimmer, etc. They will do this for random amounts of time, and then will just stop. I also notice this "fade" or "flicker" in ALL of the lights in my car; the instrument panel, the CD player, everything. Is this my alterantor? I've checked the battery cables, checked all the wiring I could, and replaced the battery with an optima red top. I don't have a system or anything like that to mess it up. Whats wrong?!? Has anyone had any problems similar to this? Thanks a lot for your replies. by the way my alternator is recently rebuild...or another thing i think it is...is it the fan belt that needs 2 be replace?...

Mine does it too, it used to be really bad, and then my alternator went. I got that rebuilt and now it barely does it at all. My alternator belt is horrible though, so I think replacing that would completely solve it. Whats the higheset your voltage gauge reads normally?? Should be steady around 14 volts when you're driving.

ya it runs between 14...but 1 question...when i rev my engine or step on the gas while driving it doesnt flicker...so do u think its the belt thats need replacing...because i have another problem...sometimes i hear like a tickin sound...on the driver side well i kno its not the lifter tick...its more like a bunch of soda cans rolling on the ground...well cant explain it better...but sometimes this happens...onli way 2 get rid of that sound if it comes is 2 turn the A/C on...and the resolves the problem...do u think my belt needs 2 be replace cuz i ask my mechanic and he said maybe its the belt...

Well turning the A/C on puts an extra load on the engine via the alternator belt, could have something to do with your soda can rolling tick. I can't say for sure b/c I can't hear the sound or where it's coming from. Since your alternator was recently rebuilt I wouldn't think that would be the issue, only other thing I can think of would be the belt. I'd go ahead and replace it if I were in your shoes....which I am kinda and i'll be doing the same.
