hi,
i just got a metro lsi (1991) with no manual for it. it has a few problems to fix. i hope someone can help.
i have the automatic trans and it seems to not shift into 3rd. i can get it up to 65 but it starts to "chug" is it possible the is a lever adjustment to correct? the shift lever works in 1st and 2nd fine. in drive it is just like there are only 2 gears, 1st and second.
the next question is about a little black button that "pulls out" (spring loaded). it is to the rear of the shift console drivers side (right near the handle for the emergency / parking brake). what is that "button" for ??
lastly the blower motor for the heater / a/c doesn't work at all. any idea where the fuse might be? my local auto parts store is out of stock on the haynes manual and it may take a few weeks before i can get a book on it.
LOVE this car !
Thanks in advance for any help rendered !

The lever on the console is a manual release knob so you can move your shifter without having the key on in the car. I believe so that you don't have power on to move it. As for the fuse my haynes manual is unclear which fuse is for the air and heater I do know that the main fuse block can be found undr the dash left of the stearing collum. Hope this helped alittle.

whoa whoa wait a second. Lsi is automatic, and automatics are three speeds. if you say you are running up at 65 MPH, you are WAY into second gear. 1-2 shift is around 7-10 mph, and 2-3 shift is about 23-28 mph. motor would be done if you were in 2nd gear at 65 mph.

It could be doing what my auto trans did before I had the filter and fluid changed. It acctually was never shifting out of third gear. After these were changed I still had trouble untill I adjusted cable to my TV-1 valve. However I reccomend the filter and fluid first if that dosen't help then get the haynes manual and you will find the procedure under automatic transmissions to adjust the cable linkage

yes.. it is a 3 speed auto. from a start it shifts at about 10-15 mph
from then on i can't tell or feel a difference in shifting untill i stop.
from 15 mph and up it doesn't seem to change anything if i put the shifter in 2 versus drive. (i will admit i only tried it at about 40 mph). when you release the gas pedal it feels like second to me some but not a "great amount" of engine "braking"
for now i am keeping to under 50, but still looking for answers
