Well....

I can't start my car.

Security light flashes at me when my key is in. Anyone else ever have a problem with their key?? Any idea how much GM charges for a new key??

BTW...1999 Trans Am. I figure it would be the same as the Camaros.

You mean that little sensor thing on your key?

Rally Sport
06-28-2005, 03:51 AM
Maybe you put on something on your keychain that messes it up? I remember stuff like speedpass and crap like that will mess around with a sensor in an F150 but I dont know about Maros and Firebirds.

Mr. Luos

Keychain consists of two keys and the keyfob. Door key and ignition key.

Those keys are normally just sitting on the table here. Oh well, probably just need GM to make me a new key.

Remember if you cant start it with the key. GREEN TO YELLOW WIRE STARTS THE CAR!

Eh...not that I really need to drive it right now anyways.

What I need to be doing to getting it ready for the new motor.

Mr. Lous, you already got your what is 406, 402 block? Man, i gotta see this car in person. I saw Firehawk before, and it waas complelely badass. I like how pontiac went with the bird look for the firebird. Looking at it from the the front, they like exactly like falcons (98-02 anyways).

Mr. Luos
06-28-2005, 01:54 PM
Yeah, the motor is here. 402ci LS1 stroker. Iron block.

Damn, that shit is clean!! I bet you can't wait to get that thing in the bird, shit i can't wait. What else do you have to do before it's complete?

Mr. Luos
06-28-2005, 02:01 PM
Pull current motor, sell it.

I don't want to choke this 402, so I refuse to put it together without the heads I want. AFR 225's. Of course, those come at a heavy price. $1700 bare.
So basicly, I am down the heads, lifters, and seals and gaskets.
The true duals are another problem, but not too worried about those. Not that expensive for that.

Damn, wish i were in your shoes right now. Your heads cost $1700?!?! Is that for one or two? The heads i'm looking at getting only cost about $600 assembled.

Mr. Luos
06-28-2005, 02:48 PM
That is for both, bare.

They do flow 320cfm at .600, which I like for heads right outta the box. They haven't been worked yet.

Bare meaning that you have to assemble yourself? Shit, that sux!! How much for the assembly parts?

06-28-2005, 06:29 PM
well considering this has happend to me and my boys who owns the shops ws6 im thinking its the lock silanode (cant spell it but u get it). its the thing inside your ignithion that reads that damn chip in your key that tells the vats to let the car start. a new one is 120 bucks, but considering the crazy alarm i have on my car i decided to just take it out. well bypass it, my chip is connected to the inside of the ignition like u would have to do when u put auto start on your car and put the extra key inside the dash. they go out alot its common and it sucks ass big time but the thing is really nothing more than a brittle wire that keeps getting bent everytime u start the car sooner or later it will break

Assembled they are in the $2500 range. I already have most of the parts, so I figure I will get the bare.

sounds like the wires on your ignition lock cylender broke. and the vats module isnt reading your key. a quick fix is to use a multimeter to measure the resistance of your key pellet, and buy a matching resistor at the local radio shack or something. plug that resistor into the little two wire connector at the base of your steering coulum, i believe it is two small yellow wires. plug the resistor in on the module side of the connector. and the car should start. but if i am correct youll need a new lock cylender to fix the problem, requires taking off the steering wheel, lock plate, and horn, and then removing the lock cylender and harness, and threading a new one in. not really that hard. but takes some special tools to get it done. good luck getting the steering wheel off without a puller for instance.

oh and the whole green to yellow wire thing was a joke right? that dont work on vats equipped cars. vats kills ignition and fuel, so even if you crank it, it wont start.

thats what i said too... but we took the pellet out the key and molted it to the wired, real nice, now when i get auto start i wont need an extra key, the bad side is now my car can be hot wired, but if that happens ill sue the bastards who put in my alarm that thing cost me a arm and a damn leg and damnit i want security!!

Lol, I just remembered you have one. Im not making fun but my friend has one and he painted it black with like 5 or so gloss coatings on it, making it look real nice and he said that its a pain to drive because its slow.

wrightz28
06-29-2005, 05:26 PM
Well, I think I'm about to find out how slow mine is being a 4 spd. manual. I don't expect prognessis of my daily driver to be good. I finally threw the towel in and have to have a trans shop look at it. I can't come up with a logical explanation for having a perfect trans 8 out of 10 starts, then notta a f'n thing and no band debris anywhere in sight. It's like someone's under my hood screwing with me by sucking all the fluid out of the trans, then when I go to pop the hood and check the level, they spit it back in and all is well til whenever?

Mr. Luos

Mr. Luos
06-29-2005, 11:39 PM
Thanks.

It honestly is a little too expensive of a daily driver for me right now. This new job is squeezing me by, and really slowing down this 402ci project. I am looking for better right now though.

And Rally Sport, which Chevy version???
Daily driver wise anyways....

Monte Carlo, if im not mistaken Gran Prix have the same powertrain and basicly almost everything the same to the letter. Except body of course.

Mr. Luos
06-29-2005, 11:50 PM
Nice cars!!

I love the Grand Am GT. Just don't need it. I could use something much cheaper. $8500 car isn't really what I need right now. It is nice, drives great, is very comfy, etc.....

But I would prefer a mid 90's Civic hatchback or something along those lines. I don't need the daily to be nice, but I do need gas mileage.

Rally Sport
06-30-2005, 12:48 AM
Well what I would suggest is an Eclipse, nice car, fairly cheap, and gets a good mpg rating also they have better hp then a civic so thats a plus. I'd try other things than a Honda, dont know why I think a Honda is kinda the car you'd find me dead in.

06-30-2005, 02:42 PM
i wish they wouldnt design cars to crush when they are impacted. That really worries me. If i could have any car and gas mileage didnt matter id get an old early 70's vista cruiser.Im kinda partial to station wagons. That would be sweet. They came with 440 blocks i think. An excellent sleeper. Not much power factory but....well....you know....Just imagine embarrassing some guy when you waste him in a station wagon. and if you get into an accident chances are the other person will only have half of a car left and you will have a small dent and scratch on your bumper... hehehehe

Mr. Luos

Sorry to bring this back....

But it isn't the key.
Anyone with a 4th gen ever had this problem?? It is the ignition cylinder, it doesn't read the key properly. There is a cheap resistor fix, but I am not sure which wires to put the resistor on. I know the key number.

Remember Luos GREEN TO YELLOW STARTS THE CAR!

No... it wont, you might be able to crank the engine, but the vats will block signal to the injectors and the ignition, it will not start.

check at the base of the steering coulumn, it should be a two wire harness of two yellow wires, seperate from everything else. small guage wires, and headed toward the center of the dash. its not hard to fix, check my previous post, it should explane it.

seriously though, its hard to tell from this angle but i think the wires you are looking for are the orange wires at the bottom of the "V" bracket. next to the yellow airbag harness. (dont screw with that by the way, just a word of caution)
