I have an 89 Grand Prix SE with 2.8 engine. Originally the system did not kick in and acted like it was low on freon so I added a can and it worked ok at that point. A few weeks later I noted it lost some of it's charge and acted as it did before, likewise I noticed the compressor was leaking oil at its midsection so decided to pump it down and replace the compressor with one from the salvage yard, along with the condensor, which had been bent up from an apparent wreck by the previous owner. I flushed and blew out the new condensor and changed out the accumulator while it was at it. I put 6 ounces of oil in the compressor, ounce each in the accumulator adn condensor. I went to charge it and the low side ran up to 80-90 psi and the low side was less around 20 psi and the compressor would not kick in. I jumped the clutch to get it to kick in and it did, which made the low side go down to 20 psi and the high side run up to about 150 psi, and then would kick out but right before it did, a few times there was a slight short "growl" from the compressor. Nothing ran long enough to tell if lines were hot or cold or if it was blowing cold air inside. After that I got access to the back of the compressor and disconnected the wires and checked for continuity between the terminals which one had (white on compressor) and the other (green) did not. Again, I am stumped as to what I did here to mess this up. Any help as to what I need to check would be greatly appreciated.

I have been studying a haynes a/c manual and have gotten a few ideas but still need some assistance. The manual talks about jumping a pressure switch but I am not sure where it is located on this 89 grand prix. I can't see anything electrical on the lines, and is nothing on the accumulator. Only thing I see is the 2 connectors at the back of the compressor. Exactly what are those? Is one a low cut out and one a high cutout? Also, where on this system is the Orifice Tube? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

The orifice will be on the high pressure line between the High pressure test port and the firewall. It will probably just look like a inline connector where you can break into the line and remove it for cleaning the screen in front of it.
The 2 connectors at the back of your compressor, assuming they are unrelated to the clutch connector, are probably your low and high cutouts. I am not that familiar with your particular car, but that is the only thing I can think of electrical in your system. On my Fords the sensors are on T's on the high and low pressure lines.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I was not sure where to start looking for this at all.
