Bov

On a stock bov i noticed that when i take the pipe that puts the air back into the turbo off it makes an aftermarket bov sound. does this harm the engine or turbo.

If you want to vent your BOV, or in other words, what you were just doing by taking the recirculation pipe off, you need the proper setup to do it right. You would need a MAFt, and a blow-through uicp pipe and intake pipe. Some people call this a ricer mod cause it doesn't really help you unless you have a certain amount of air flow (huge turbo). thas cool i was jus messin around with it one day and it did that but i didnt know if it hurt my car or not so i just put it on and finally got around to askin you guys. thx tho!!

It's not like your car will blow up if you vent the BOV. It will start to mess with the idle and you will run rich between every shift.

i did notice that the idle dropped down but i also noticed that when i kink the hose the the intake it didnt do it that bad so i was just seein if you could cork the hose and it wouldnt do that but i dont think you can

I've been having my HKS vented for a month or 2 now and its getting better and better. It used to shift wierdly and now its normal. I dont know why it does this but the first month i had it vented, it sucked. Second month i noticed it drive normal now even though i cant actually see the real problem.

Is that an example of the ECU "learning" a new driving mode or something? Like how they say the computer "adapts" to the driver?

Must be, but I'm still glad there isn't a cheap ECU hack to be able to vent without 'noticing' it. Just because you think everything is alright doesn't mean it is.

The ECUs only learning is in trims, which will adjust with about 10 minutes of idling, and 10 minutes of steady state cruise, for the most part. There is nothing that will take a month to learn. More than likely the driver just learned to drive around the problem. After years of running a vented BOV on stock MAS I was able to make it work with my driving style changes. Once I went to the MAFt and it ran much better, it took a long time to unlearn those crazy driving habits. :)
