I purchased a 97 aurora at an auto auction, for 1700 dollars. I knew I was in trouble when I finally found the battery under the back seat. Found out later someone had ran over something and cracked the oil pan. After 3weeks, I have the tranny and the cross over pipe out. Now I find some hair line cracks on the side of the engine. I am considering a used, rebuilt,or a remanufacturd engine. I have heard cracks can be repaired by soldering or some type of epoxy. And something such as bar's leak added to the coolant. Any suggestions out there??

With this car's aluminum block, soldering or epoxy would probably not be advisable.

also, the battery is/was where it's supposed to be. Unfortunately, these engines are typically not rebuilt, but replaced. Your best bet is to find a junked one and get the engine. At least you'll have lots of spare parts!!!

Thanks Protek22 and Zimaad. I found someone through JunkYard dog, That has an engine for $1200 dollars, plus $150 dollars for shipping. A company named New Castle auto wrecking. Which is located in PA.I am glad I am retired, or I wouldn't have time to work on this car. Although I take care of my sister, who is handicapped. And a minature schnauzer, whos head is hard as a rock, when it comes to trying to get him to do anything. Thanks guys, you are the best.

2 schnauzers here...and I was born just near New Castle, Pa. My grandmother was raised there. Sounds like you have a good new excuse to buy some tools!!

Great news!
Good to hear you've resolved this issue, and have time to do the work yourself. I'm sure you'll be enjoying your Aurora in no time!
Best of luck

You must be psychic Z, Because right after I brought my Aurora, I went out and brought a 121 set of Craftman hand tools, torque wrench, and a few other goodies
