Hi all,
I bought a new deck for my 1999 Caravan. I had an old pioneer deck. I had the keys out of the ignition and when I went to clip out the old wiring, to connect the new leads, the interior light turned off. Now when the key isn't in the ignition I have no interior light, horn, power locks. The new deck is wired up now and it has no power even when the car is turned on. I checked all the relevant fuses they seemed to be fine. Something has happened electrically, any ideas?

Sounds like the body control module may have some problems. You may need to replace it to get things to work properly.

Is the body control module located in the fuse box under the hood? How can I verify this? Any other ideas?

If you're sure all is wired correctly, disconnect your battery for 10 minutes. Make sure all connections are clean. Reconnect and test.

also is it possible he blew the iod fuse? just a thought, because on our van the radio will work even without the bcm but not without the iod even with the ignition on.

Where is the IOD fuse? Sorry I do not know much about cars.... I just need more info so I can check this. Is it possible that if the radio is not hooked up correctly these other problems would arise? Meaning the current passes through the radio wires when the key is not in the ignition? Just a thought.

Okay I will look at some of these things tonight. Another clue maybe, if I am running my car and have the lights on, then turn is off and take the keys from the ignition, leaving the lights on, everything still works. So as long as I dont turn off the lights my power locks, interior light and horn work, I still don't have power to the radio. Does that help at all?

On the 2001 the radio is fed via fuse 5 of the IPM. Check that fuse. If it is good, verify B+ on the fuse. The B+ is fed from the accessory relay also located in the IPM. Ignition must be in run or accessory to get B+ from relay. The coil of the relay is fed dirctly from the battery. Let us know how you make out.

ALright guys! I found the problem, I went through all the fuses with a voltmeter, it ended up being some 10A memory fuse. Not sure what it does, or what it is, but after replacing everything works great. Thanks for all the help. John.
