After checking the error code from the diagnostics, I found the ECM was not recieving a signal from the ignition module, but the engine runs, sort of smooth, does that mean, if the ECM is not recieving it's signals from the ignition module, the carburettor is not being controlled properly by the ECM, and the running of the engine is affected to the point that when gas is applied slowly (as if pulling away) the engine sort of 'chokes'?, even though the choke flap is open, the fuel filter has been replaced, the carburettor has been disassembled, cleaned, and re-assemled, distributor cap, rotor, leads, and spark plugs replaced.

when the ecm doesnt recieve codes it goes back to the defalt mode and runs everything at startup mode. that could explane why it seems to be running rich, sounds like it. it could be a bad sensor in carb, or somewhere else, being as old as it is you should be able to pick up a yard computer cheep enuf if thats the problem, but i dont think it is. i think you have a bad sensor,
which one is guys? any help here?
