Hey, just got back home from SA and Nelson's shop. I couldnt be any happier, the truck drives so much better all around. It does 70-80 now like it used to do 50. I really dont want to get a ticket at this point so I m really trying to stay out of the throttle as much as I can. If anyone here is still on the fence about spending the money over the handheld programmers. NELSON IS THE WAY TO GO, no question about it. Allen will do whatever it takes to get it just the way you want it.

That tune really opens up that downshift and the middle range get up and go doesn't it??? I bet it was hard to keep the speed down. Pulling that trailer will be a lot easier. Now that you are interested in the engine mods look at Allen's Forum LS1TRUCK and you will find some real gear heads.

Welcome to the Nelson club, Congrats on a great choice.

I have a 87/89 dual tune also, and I have noticed a lot more power when running higher than regular octane gas. Basically, I had a bottle of lucas octane booster in the tank last week, because I was getting some detonation. Allen shipped me a new PCM with slightly less timing on it, and when I installed it, the boosted regular was still in my tank. Mucho Power. Then, after all that ran out, I went back to regular unleaded. Not quite as much power. Basically, with the boosted gas in the tank, at WOT, when the truck shifted from 1st to 2nd, both (G80:grinyes:) rear wheels would spin. That was awesom enough to make me think hard about putting 89 in it.

I love my Nelson Tune, I drove back from SA to Dallas and picked up my 12 ft cargo trailer in Waco (80 miles from Dallas) and when I figured mileage 16 on the way down 18 on the way back. Heading out Tues afternoon for my trip back to Washington State.

Regardless of what my mileage is, the truck runs like a champ, drives like nothing before. Granted the trailer was empty (still weighs 1200lbs), the pickup pulled it like it wasnt there, still did 80 without breaking a sweat.

Ill let you guys know how it did on the drive north after the holiday pulling 3000 lbs.

Also finally got my pic in my signature line. Whaddya think.

Sweet smooth looking ride. :sunglasse

How did the transmission act after the tune? Did you get on the Dyno or just run around the neighborhood of his? I had fun just quizing the heck out of him making sure I got what I wanted and knowing what he did.

Just went driving around his hood, his dyno was down when I was there. So we stuck to the street tune. It was amazing how his litttle tweeks after each pass made the pickup more and more alive.

It was pretty funny, as we were working on the tune he kept telling me how much I would like the 93 octane tune. But with gas prices the way they are, espically up north where 93 when you can find it (mostly 91 up there) is and will approach 2.80-3.00/gal. I am satisfied with the 89 so far. As I was leaving he said enjoy and let him know WHEN I want the high octane tune.

Greetings Bigbadram51,

You're making me drool until I can get a Nelson Tune. I've decided the only way to get one for me - its to drive to San Antonio - so thats 2 days driving each way from WI. I'm a little surprised that down in Texas the cost of Premium gas would be so high. You stated 2.80 to 3.00 a gallon. Up here in WI I'm paying 2.24 to 2.32 for premium on the west side of WI (price as of yesterday - 6-26-05) - and when travelling on the Eastern side of WI on Saturday - I was paying 2.35 for Premium.

Amazes me that in WI where we don't produce any gas - we'd be so much cheaper than in TX where you do produce the gas.

Lastly - did it cost you any additional amount to go to SA and have them do the activity there versus them sending it to you and doing a self install? Did you have any variables or extra options/activities you could have done there at the shop besides driving with him and him altering as you drove? Thanks.

Just to clarify, the fuel I was talking about is in Spokane, Washington where I'm from and where I am going. If I were to stay here in TX, there is no question I would get the 93 Octane. In Spokane reg 87 ocatane is going for about 235-240 per gallon right now. With 91 going for around 260.

The best part about going to see Allen is the tune will be specifically for your pickup, and the idiosyncrasies your engine and tranny have. Thats not to discount his mail order business, plenty of people buy them that way and are just as happy. Allen will work with you until its perfect either way

It didnt cost any more than if you mail ordered it, thats a great benefit. Allen will do installs on lots of additional parts, even turbos I believe. He does offer dyno work if you are interested.

San Antonio is a great place to visit, def hit the Riverwalk if you go.

Anymore questions let me know
