this has happened twice, when you start and release the key switch the starter still turns over while the engine is running... when you turn off the switch it still turns over... until you remove the battery cable... the first time removing the cable and then putting it back on fixed it .... it started fine until tonight it did it again this time it would of course stop when you remove the cable but it would keep turning over when you put the cable back on... i went back after 30 minutes or so put the cable back on and it did fine... it hasnt been hot either time... also every tenth time when you try to start you get just one clunk... then try again it will start ... im thinkin maybe a solenoid but i want some opinions before shootin in the dark ... thanks

probably right on solenoid ive had this happen b fore i just got a new starter with the solenoid on it replace it. Try to imagine being out and it not start the tow bill or missing work etc will pay for itself and the problem will b gone.

What kinda truck is it? Sounds 100% like the fender wall solenoid. There only 8$ at Autozone/Advance?O'reilys. I'm pretty sure thats it. There really easy to change, takes about 3-5 minutes.

My fault, wasn't paying attention to the title. But now there is no doubt. The problem IS your fender wall solenoid. I had an 88 Bronco that did the same till i replaced it.
