Trying to set the timing on the '94 Burb. But having trouble locating ONE wire.

This is what it says under the hood about setting the timing..

1. Verify no malfunction indicator lamp (service engine soon)
2. Put the distributor ignition system in bypass mode by disconnecting the timing connector.
NOTE: this is a single wire connector located behind the junction box cover. Do not disconnect four-wire connector at distributor.

Which wire is the timing connector? This is what's behind the junction box cover. I was thinking it was the far left wire on the junction box, but that wire is thick, like a ground wire..

Underneath the fuel pump relay there is a wiring harness protected by the black loom.Inside the loom you should find a tan w/black stripe wire with a single weather pack connector. This is the timing connector. If it is not there, under the glove box just behind the box hinge there is a wiring harness. The tan w/black stripe wire maybe located here.I may be mistaken on the second location. It may not apply to 94.

Thanks, I'll look tomorrow when I get home from work. I knew it was tan/black or black/tan, but not sure where it was. According to the underhood crap, they said it was behind the junction box cover.. Should have said it was in the loom under the junction box cover.

:(

Well, it's not in the harness.. well it is, but the connector isn't. It's hard wire from the distrib to under the overflow tank where that harness enters the car.

Will take glove box apart and have a look in there. :(:(:(

Not behind the glove box either, but traced the wire to the CPU and belive it or not, here it is..

In between the blower motor cover and the heater core cover, there is a taped wire loom. The timing connector wire (tan w/black stripe) is losely taped to that harness, easy to disconnect. :)

Hope this helps some people out if they have simmilar make/model.

It's a must do if you set your timing, otherwise, leave it connected and your fighting against the CPU who over-rides what you do and "trys to correct it."

I'm glad you were able to find the wire.I knew that the wire did get repositioned but was not sure what years it affected and the exact location. It has been some time since I had worked on a vehicle with the disconnect wire in the cab.
