Sunroof switch - how to get access or remove the head liner

I'm trying to replace the sunroof switch on a '94 4Runner. I've popped the cover down and removed the old switch. It was a little difficult getting the old one unplugged from the cable it was attached to, but once I got it out, I now have the big problem.
The cable I need to plug the replacement switch into is about 2 inches inside the access hole in the headliner. I've spent about half an hour trying to get my fingers in there to plug in the replacement and I can't do it. I've never tried taking off a head liner before and don't know how to do it. Since the motor for the sunroof is right up there, I assume there must be a way to do it without destroying everything.
Can anyone tell me how to get the head liner down or partially down so that I can plug in the new switch?

Try using 2 looonngg nose pliers. One to hold the harness in place, the other to snap the switch connector into the socket.
