4th Gen - Comfort Compared to 3rd Gen

I know the 3rd gen camaro is pretty big on the inside but the car its self was bigger, since the 4th gen cars are smaller how much space was taken from the driver and front passenger area? im 6'1'' and on bigger side... lol, anyone own or driven both of these generations that can help compare these?

thanks

Never been in a 4th gen, but i'd have to say 3rd gens are comfortable. Spacey and enough leg room up front, i'm 6'0" exactly, so not that far from you. The only drawback is the back seats, they really are only for kids 8 and under, grown ass people back there is a no no.

My 4th gen is pretty comfy, then again im only 5'6ish

but my taller friends and dad have all sat comfortably, my dad was a lil to big though

i have never had any complaints about my back seats, hell ive even been told that they are more comforateable than the front seats of someone elses car. Im around 5'9" or 5'10" depending on the day, and i like the room in a third gen. Personally i like the wide open design of the older cars. Thats one of the reasons i dont like my moms infiniti and my dads taurus, is that they have that organic, wrap around you design that makes me feel claustraphobic. i like the big wide open feel of my third gen.

i used to have a third gen camaro, but now i have a 4th gen, and my brother has a third gen camaro as well as my parents having a 4th gen trans am.

Personally i think the third gen is better for dailly driving... my 4th gen has great leather seats and all but they have rips so i put a seat cover on them and it has little cussions on the sides, right where those seats have the sides at, so if i sit down my head sometimes hits the roof.

for performance oriented driving i think the 4th gen is much better, the seats can handle more g forces before it starts throwing you off, and you are at a better angle for the steering wheel and just the right distance.

Other than that it depends on what seats/upolstery the car you get has. My brother thinks leather is horrible so he likes his cloth seats, but i like the feeling of healthy leather but it is different to everyone.

O - and the 4th gen does have less leg room, but it is all you need because the way the pedals and that whole area is designed.

if your like 89IROC&RS then you will probobly not like the 4th gen, but then again, 4th gens actually come with cup holders...

sorry this is so long...

so in a 4th gen even tho im pretty tall i can/ should be able to get the clutch in & and out and go & stop with out having to bring my knee all the way upto my chin to get my foot on the pedals right?

EDIT: Wrap around is good, i think its cool

they way it is setup, with my foot on the pedal(auto) my knee is about 1 inch away from the dash, it seems to be setup perfectly so that when i pull my knee up it is still about 1 inch from hitting anything.

so you shouldnt ever have problems with pedals, and my problem with hitting my head on the roof is because of the seat covers and the convertable top...

a 4th gen should be fine for you then, plus you get the extra performance of the lt1/ls1

3rd gen are all good in the comfort except if your sitting in the back no room back there but if its your car your driving and who cares about the backsit unless some sexy ladies are back there :iceslolan there pretty much the only ones that can fit back there anyways

My friends over 6 foot and the only problem is getting in and out. It almost feels like your sitting in a hole....lol.
But no complaints here, I love my third gen.

89 i believe i read somewhere on these forums that you was gonna sell one of your 3rd gens? if i read it right, which one? and about how much will you want for it?

well, im in the process of putting the black one, the RS back together. As far as how much i want for it, its gonna depend on what kinda shape its in when i put it all back together. right now im looking at around 1500 bucks with some body damage.

Yeah I saw those pics of your Maro banged up pretty bad, hows the mileage on it?

Viper_Storm
06-25-2005, 09:13 PM
yes, some body damage is ok, but does it run strong? how many miles? its an auto right?

89IROC&RS
06-25-2005, 09:20 PM
well the car has about 150,000 miles on it, but it has a rebuilt jasper engine in it with about 30,000 miles on it. she runs like a top. although is in need of an exhaust and a transmission overhaul, which i might have done before i sell her, but obviously that will drive the price up.

The damage in the other thread was from hitting the volvo, i fixed all of that damage, exept the point behind the driver side door. the body damage it has now is no where near as severe as those pictures were. right now im replacing the K-member as the welds on the suspension mounts broke in the accident. im also putting a new starter on it because that broke too.

I have already been asked about it by my friends girlfriend though, so your second in line at this point if youre interested. She's got first dibs unless you want to start a bidding war ;)

Ive also got a torsen rear with 3.23 gears that i am willing to sell with the car for an additional sum :)

Viper_Storm
06-25-2005, 09:27 PM
well i cant start bidding yet, where are you located? lol, i need to beable to get to it on the easy side

Dont even try to start winning the bid war, she can sleep with him so she'll be able to get her friend to get the car, its useless!

im 6'3 ( im not very wide, lol) and i fit in my 3rd gen camaro fine........i rode in a friends 1994 trans am ...in the backseat.....sure it wasnt comfy....but i could still sit and have a seat belt on........i have been curious if i can have a fourth gen..considering my size....also im a drummer and i travel alot with my equipment so before i bought my 3rd gen i checked......and it all fits......im assumming i couldnt do that in a 4th gen?

Rally Sport
06-27-2005, 04:55 PM
Well you probably could do it in a 4th gen because they're both hatchbacks and I dont know how much less space is on a 4th gen, so im guessing it would still fit. I think 3rd gen back seats are really comfortable, dont know why..

Thats what i found out about 3rd gens too. With the back seat folded down, you sure can hold some shit in there, and can make it easier for kinky sex. May have sore backs afterwards though.

Best thing you could do is like take the back seat out, put like a futon or something in there and then no problem huh?

I knew I came to this forum for a reason!

I'm 6' I have plenty of room in the front seats of my 3rd gen. The seats are comfortable too. The back seats are comfortable as long as the front seats are as far forward as possible and tilted forward. There is enough room in the back though... back in high school I hauled around three people back there. Just remember if someone is sitting on the hump.... hit all the pot holes.

"hit all the pot holes." Priceless.

Anyone know what made GM go with hatchback designs for the later gens?

Yeah, not a very good idea....although I thought about it....I WOULDNT DO IT THOUGH....
Down here someone did that and a couple died in the accident.
Its an accident waiting to happen.

Hm...You know it's a real good question about what made GM goto hatchbacks instead of a trunk..well maybe they were thinking about more space! Needless to say I can fit 4 tires in the back with the seats folded down (Had to do it once because need to change tires!)

did the person sitting on the hump make any funny faces???? i was driving four girls lacrosse players to practice from the pool, and had three in the back, well, i kinda gave her an orgasm. To test it out i had another one of my gal pals sit on it when i was driving around the neighborhood, and she told me to keep driving, because it was like a big vibrator.

oh and i live in the northern Virginia area, near D.C.

Hhahahhahahaha, rofl, that's too great. That's just awesome.

So you're not all that far from me, I'm in northeast ohio, 'bout an hour and a half from Pitt. PA.

Of course it was like a vibrator, hell my Camaro shook real bad just when it was sitting (normal shaking btw kinda like muscle car idling, not real bad) So I could imagine how bad 89's shook when he hit the gas!
