Strange electrical phantom...HELP!

I have a 90 Tercel 1.5 liter.....the one with the alien carburetor!! My problem tho, is that previous to last week, I had no intrument lights inside...and no driving (marker) lights. Brakes and headlights work fine. One day after work I come out and my marker lights front side and back lights are on!! Not so strange yet.......but they won't cut off unless I remove the + cable from the batt. Any ideas what the heck happened???? I have no clue what caused the lights to work in the first place, as I assumed the intrument panel bulbs had gone out. Now they work all the time!!!
