selling DSM for cobalt?

was thinking of selling my 92 non turbo for a 05 chev cobalt, cuase im 19 and go to college and its only economical for me, 1,900 down and 99$ a month and i dont have to pay insurance.... i mean there is deffinately a 98-99 turbo convertable 5 speed eclipse in my future... just wondering anyones opinion

I'd take a durable 90's honda over a new domestic like that, but you sure sound more sensible than I am.

how is it more economical to buy a brand new car when you're just going off to college? so you can have college spenditures PLUS a new car payment?

But really, I'd reconsider more options before doing that. It may sound good being a new car. The fad down here was to go get a new cavalier because they were new. Personal I hated them. I mean everybody who was 18 and just graduated went and got one because they were new and had a first time buyers program......if that is what you are doing....

Well the thing will get you good gas mileage, and since you will be goin to college, that aspect will be a little nicer on your wallet seeing as how oil just jumped another $0.15 a gallon....

I wouldn't buy one though. It's a cavalier with a new look, and cavaliers just don't do much for me. If you want a car that you will pass by ever 30 sec, go for it. Unless there is somethin seriously wrong with your 1g, keep it and keep looking. It will just be a waste of money if your eventual goal is a 2g turbo. :2cents:

Keep your options open. There are many other cars to choose form.
JUst don't be sucked in by it get good gas mileage. Paying $250+ a month plus paying for gas is not cheap. You'll be better off in you car now. NO payments. Just gas Thats economical...unless there is something wrong with your 92.

all I know is the car real is not slow. you should get on and look at some stats case the is a good deal. Not that I am hateing toward dsm or anything! but it is not just another cavalier it dose alot better it go's like 0-60 in like 6 somthin sec.. but I think that is would be way cool to stay with the family and get a TALON TSI AWD that would be my sugestion

besides, a DSM is just as domestic as a cavalier or cobalt.

cobalts are well built and warantees are nice to have, but new car payments also seriously kick your ass when you're trying to go to school at the same time. I would just keep your car to save money, you'll need it, if you drive to school and the car dies on you, just pay someone who lives near school what you'd spend on gas to sleep on their couch.

I support your view but it is your desicion. I just think there are better options than a 05 cobalt because it runs better than your current car. So do others. Good luck anyway tho. Anything that runs good is ok.

Unless your credit is absolutely perfect, you will not actually get the car for $99 a month. Only %1 of people actually qualify for the APR that is so often advertised. The $99 a month would also be the most base model possible with no options at all. Plus, because the car is new you will lose most of the resale value in the first couple years especially if you get one with no options. Plus, Chevy sucks. kidding

yeah unless you have a 700+ credit rating you won't get that apr. if you are just going to college, there is no way you have that kinda credit. You'd need a co-signer to get that. yeah and striped down cars suck, there's nothing nice about them. Cobalts are just new, once people get used to them they will just be an other caviler.

eh found a 78 corvette, engine just rebuilt and i sent it to the body shop yesterday for sunburnt orange i get it back in a week, i cant wait

05 cobalt isnt a bad choice at all, my mom just got one, its a 4-door and its a 5-spd, it gets good gas milage, and prolly more reliable then a eclipse(im not hating! i have a 93 GSX and i love it....but serously lolz) and its prolly ALOT faster then ur 92 GS, a stock cobalts 1/4 time according to ME cuz i ran it at the track :((yes i ran my mothers car at a track....w/out her knowing lolz) is a 15.9......thats not bad at all

700 credit is actually pretty shitty. He can get the $99 deal. You dont have to have perfect credit to get it. There is a catch though. Your payments are only that low for 24 months. Then it goes to a normal payment and if you have low interest for the low payment and when the payment goes up, so will the interest and then they charge you for the past 24 months the same interest as you pay with the high payment.

Example: You pay $99 @ .1% interest for 24 months. Then you pay $299 @ 3.1% interest after the 24 months. If you dont have the car paid off by the end of the 24 months when the payment changes, then you get charged 3.0% interest on those 24 months.

My buddy did this on his motorcycle and he ended up getting screwed for it cause he didnt know they would do that. Its one of those very fine print type of info. Be aware!

Welcomen to my world. I just recently bought a 2005 Mazda 6 because I was tired of the NA Talon I had. i was rather surprised I ddn't need a co-signer at age 18 an it all went well. Just to let you know, you must be sure to have job security. I go to college as well, but it's close enough so i can live at home and the only payments I make are car, insurance, tuition and gas.


Take it from me, if you don't absolutely need it, don't do it. I'm broke as a joke everytime I have to pay for all this shit. So unless you are willing to give up your social life for the next 48 months, stick with the DSM
