Droping My zx2

I have an '98 Escort ZX2 and I am considering droping it a couple of inches. Can I buy a set of Lowering springs and install or is much more complicated? How bout air bags or adjustable struts? Any info or direction to articles would be great.

Drop springs would do the trick, airbags and adjustable struts are more for compression and rebound control, not height. It would be nice to do a whole setup, KYB adjustables, oversize stabilizer bars, urethane bushings on everything and drop springs. Probably handle real nice.

If you do get drop springs, go with a type that is progressively wound, you'll handle better, be more comfortable and bottom out less.

get some good springs like H&R or Eibach. You should be able to install them yourself, its not very hard. Plan on buying some good shocks at the same time or soon afterwards. KYB AGX or Koni Yellow are good choices.

Will I need a camber kit or anything like this to keep my car road worthy? I'm not racing or anything I just want to have a safe car for my family and such.

Youre kind of taking your chances with those springs. i highly recommend you buy either Eibach or H&R. They are both world class quality. A little expensive but worth it. Suspension is one thing you must not go cheap on! The camber kit depends on how much you actually lower the car. up to 2" of lowering usually it is not needed. But keep in mind your ride will be alot harder with shorter springs. You should also look into new shocks to keep the ride decent and really bring out your cars handling. KYB AGX shocks (adjustable firmness) with Eibach Sportline or Pro kit springs is a great setup.

Is there anything on the springs that would make you shy away from them? or lead you to believe they are not skoocum?

go with those if you want, but im just trying to guide you on a path that will guarantee solid, reliable performance with no problems.

I would agree going with a high quality more expensive spring, as a bad suspension setup can ruin your car by destroying your handling (safety) and giving your car a terribly stiff ride (the whole family thing lol) as is my typical rule of thumb there are three things you never go cheap on, and those are tires brake and suspension, because in a accedent situation, these are all you have to rely on and you want the maximum preformance out of these areas of your vehicle, but good luck with whatever you decide to buy
