84 seville Fuel gauge

I have an 84 Seville with a digital instrument cluster. The fuel gauge is incorrect. The car will run out of gas while showing 3 gallons left. Is there an easy way to recalibrate the reading? Or should I just plan on removing the fuel sending unit for some moderate bending? Any help is greatly appreciated.
