When good trannys go bad...... question

I just had my transmission judder fixed by changing a couple of torque converter lock up solenoids (or something like that).
I've not had my car long (94 4.6), and it was juddering really bad when I got it. When the cars ok, and then after a while for whatever reason juddering starts again, is the judder quite violent to start with and just the duration and frequency increase? Or, does the judder start really quiet and gradually get louder and more frequent?
I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, its just that I'm now parranoid about it happening again, and keep thinking every little road noise I hear is coming from the gearbox! However the slight noises that I do hear still carry on even when take my foot off and coast, so I'm pretty sure its road/tyre noise. Its nowhere near like before when it really felt like it was shaking the box to bits!
