Canada: Problems with canada post

Hi all:
I would like to ask fellow Canadian members on the forum about dealing with canada post.
I have recently purchased something from aboard and everything was supposed to go smoothly.
Then one day I got the delivery notice in my mail box notifying me to pick up my item at my local station.
Then I did, to my surprise the officers at my local station never received it, while Canada post had it tracked all the way until it entered my neighbourhood from outside of country. Apparently my stuff either ended up in any other random station or was simply "lost"?
Since then I have done all the standard procedure, calling and setting up a file etc etc.
My question is, if all hopes have been exhausted, how possible is it for Canada post to compensate the money I spent, given that I have the electronic copy of the receipt from paypal?
Only asking cuz right now I am thinking over whether I should order a new set of the lost item. :frown:

was the package insured? if not you may be out of luck
you should go down to the post office and ask them if you can get your money back

Where the package come from ? If it's outside Canada, then Canadapost won't do anything. If it US, then it's USPS that will compensate IF insurance was taken.
In any way, it's the sender and not you that need to do this
