i have an 85 chevy scottsdale 3/4 ton. i want to put a lift on it for cheap but no body lift. it has a straight axle so can i put blocks on front and back under leaf springs. and what else would i need (steering components, brake line, etc)

Blocks on front are not safe. blocks on rear ok. You will need new steering arm and brake lines for front. Get new lift springs for front-- your old ones probably are shot by now. The ends of the front springs should not be lower than the top of your front axle.

Just buy a kit from someone like superlift, skyjacker, rough country, etc. They are cheap for your type of suspension and all the components are tested to work together.
