Thankfully it stopped working in the up position. I don't hear anything when it is engaged, it simply won't go down. Where to start with this one? Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

I have a wierd prob with my 99 3.8L rear windows. Well summer is here, so before I get into the car I like to put open all the windows to let the heat escape. But when I have driver door open and try to open rear windows... no go... I mean this doesnt happen all the time but enough to get noticed. Maybe its a loose wire or something..

Like me I have the same problem only difference the driver side window. Your lucky that it stuck in the up position. Mine on the other hand was stuck about halfway down. Tried pulling up on the window while pushing up on the switch didn't work. Ended pulling the whole f______ door panel of to get at the motor and rail itself. Took awhile but did get it to lock in the up position. The mess up thing about it is I smoke can't roll down the damn window down until I get the new window and motor in from the mail.
But to answer your question. I posted the same question on another forum. It's due to poorly designed cable driven window. He just told me to change it out for a aftermarket replacement. Got for about $50 bucks from ebay. You can't beat that price. Can't tell you how it works didn't get it in yet. hears the link I was given by rncotton

Oh yea I bought the the (RF) passenger side window regulator with motor just to be on the safe side if the other decides to crap out on me.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 98 model that periodically comes down with this problem. In my case I found that the window weatherstripping has a tendency to bond itself to the window along its border. I took a thin putty knife and ran it in between the glass and the weatherstripping and broke the 'bond'. My rear windows have this problem more than the front ones. Before I found the bonding problem, I disassembled the door and window and found no problem with the mechanisms. A wasted effort.

Update. Did change out the whole window regulator and motor. Found out that the cable came off the track right where the plastic piece is(on top of the regulator). I think the motor is still good. The cable looks like it's missing a few wires. So I'm pretty sure the wires that are missing is wound up in the motor housing itself. That's why it will move for a second then stop same in the other direction. Is there anyway I can salvage the motor or buy new cables. Then it could be a spare or be sold.

lunasea808, you probably can't do anything to repair the cable, but the motor can be detached from the cable reel (three bolts) and if it is in good working condition you should be able to get something out of it (on E-Bay or whatever).
When I talked to the guy at the auto parts store here he said a new motor would be about 60 clams, WITH the old motor turned in for core credit (about 25 bucks worth). So the motor definitely has some value, even if the rest of the power window assembly goes in the recycle bin.

I had a mechanic do an electrical test on the window and after 2 hours he said it was fixed....and it was....for 3 months. Then the drivers window and the passenger window stuck in the closed position at the same time. One of my daughter's friends was playing with the window and ..... they both now work. I have no idea and neither does he. This was 3 months ago and it still is working ok.
