Well... Insurance can go either way. You may get it cheap and it could be VERY expensive. Personally, I have State Farm for my auto insurance and my bike insurance is DIRT CHEAP. I know that there are other companies out there that wanted close to 10x what I am paying with State Farm.

As far as the repairs are concerned...
The parts are inexpensive, and the battery install is easy. You better know what you are doing if you are going to do the clutch yourself.

what determines if you pay out the @$$ or if you get off easy? i too am concerned about insurance for a first bike. In my case, though, it would be in conjunction with my first car, so it will be one of my first vehicles, i plan on having a bike and a car, any body have experiences with a 16yr old wanting a bike?

The company is the biggest factor... After that you have to consider your driving record, the vehicle you are attempting to insure, and your location - just like a car.

o l l l l o is right... it depends on insurance companies.. with my record

1 accident w/ defective vehicle violation
2 speeding 5-9 over
3 defective vehicle violation

i went to 3 before i found one

American Family - doesnt cover sport bikes in my area they are "too dangerous"

State Farm - too many tickets... of course they took my first month's premium and didnt give it back because "i was insured" :banghead:

Progressive - WOO HOO someone that accepts people that have tickets and have a sport bike... with full coverage and 500 ded... 1750 per year.. so kinda crappy but hey i got my bike :D
