Hey everyone, I have heard that the cylinder head from a pontiac sunbird is the same as a fiero's head, I need a new head for my 86 fiero, and i was wondering if anyone can verify that the head from a sunbird will fit on my fiero. thanks alot. -mark

There are three basic flavors of 2.5 head in that era. The "R" (VIN code) head is what cam on Fiero. The others are the RWD version (S-10s, etc.) and the "U" code. They are NOT interchangeable. You must take the casting number (7 or 8 digit number, cast into the head) and match it to the "new" head. It must also have the "R" code head gasket pattern. I can't recall which is which, but one of the FWD heads has one head bolt hole offset differently than the other.
