Wondering if anyone can help me with this problem....
I have a 93 mx-6 v6 5speed w/ almost 200000 miles. When the car was first bought about 9 months ago it ran fine, but ceased to crank up one day (for no apparent reason). The engine would turn over fine and fast enough to crank, it just would not catch (we went through 2 batteries trying to crank it). After that the car sat for 6 months until it had to be moved. After a couple days of trying (unsuccessfully) to crank the car with a new battery, the engine suddenly caught one night and actually ran (for no apparent reason). Now i can crank the engine every time i try, except that the only problem is that now if i try to drive the car, the engine doesnt run smoothly, wont hold engine speed (the rpm's will fall even as you push the gas pedal to the floor), wont rev above about 3-4000 rpm, and will bog down and eventually die. The engine doesnt respond well if i hold the gas pedal- i have to pump it to get it to rev, and even then its reluctant. When the car is restarted it starts back up fine, but after about 30 secs the same problems occur. The "check engine" light does not come on. The car doesnt smoke or make weird noises or anything- it runs fine except it wont stay running. First i thought that this could be the distrubutor, but now Im thinking it might be the fuel filter/pump...i really have no idea. Could this possibly be linked to the oil pump (the car seemed to run very slightly better after adding a quart of oil)? Is there any (low cost) way I can find out for sure exactly whats wrong? has anyone else had these problems? THANKS A LOT for any help anyone can give.

Just get a tune up. Go to ford or mazda and they'll look at your car for 20 bones and they'll tell you the problem. BUT DONT FIX IT THERE THEY'LL RIP IT OF.

for most starters when they fail that the starter solenoid not engage. without seeing it, I would say replace the starter!! or at least see the solenoid is operating correctly......:) :smokin:
