You can flame me, but I think the USGP would make a great ALMS race.

maybe if people actually went to ALMS races. F1 will be back, maybe not in Indy, but they'll be back.

This is my first post, so here goes. I sure hope to god that they bring F1 back to the U.S, I can't stand NASCAR and I hope F1 becomes more popular, but it won't if they never bring the GP back to the US. Would be nice to see them drive at Watkins Glen again.

watkins glen doesn't have the facilities for an F1 race and would also need to be repaved. I agree though, Watkins Glen is possibly the most interesting road course in America (in a dead heat with Road America in my opinion). Word is that if the race leaves Indy, its going to Las Vegas which has the amenities required to entertain an F1 crowd and the track has the money required to upgrade their facilities to F1 standards.

That would acutally be pretty awesome I think. Las Vegas would provide a decent venue and it definitely would impress the rest of the world I think.. Mostly because of how much money Las Vegas has and the "prestige" that surrounds it. Kind of the same theme as Monaco, although not at nearly the same level.

Aparently they are still selling tickets for the 2006 F1 USGP at Indy so...:dunno:

Hopefully not at the indy course...that place blows...race at a real road course...infineon would be nice, I think they have the facilities neccesary for a GP weekend...the track layout might be too cockeyed for the FIA though.

Infineon doesn't have a wide enough pit lane or garages next to the pits and cant build them because they would be sitting right next to the dragstrip.

Back to Long Beach!! But in all honesty, that idea with Las Vegas and racing partially on The Strip was the greatest idea I've heard in a long time. Las Vegas and F1 would rake in the dough if it were to become a reality. I wouldn't think twice about buying tickets and a hotel room for the weekend if it were in Vegas. IMS was a great course and my whole weekend, up until the end, was fantastic. Unfortunately, I can't risk having another fiasco happen on my dollar so hopefully they bring it closer to California so I can attend. :frown:

The US Grand Prix will remain. The sport has been growing in the US and this whole cluster-fuck of a week at Indy has been a shot in the jaw but I don't see F1 leaving the US anytime soon. It hurt, as a paying fan, to see what happened. But I, along with many American F1 fans, will continue to watch our favorite sport. Shit happens in sports. Hell, millions of NHL fans missed an entire season of hockey due to player greed. I just wish all the corruption in sports wasn't at the fans expense. :2cents:

I'm pretty sure they were talking about using the road course at LVMS and not a street course in Las Vegas.

Nah, I read in the USGP program that they wanted to run part of the race on the Strip.

you seriously dont think infineon has a big enough pit lane? i figured if stock cars used them then F1 cars could... oh well, id like to see it at indy, watkins glen, or somewhere like mid-ohio (even though they obviously dont have the facilities) just so i could be close enough to go see it. but if its not close enough my fav. road course in america is laguna seca.

the thing is that F1 Needs garages directly adjacent to the pit lane, if you ever watch F1 Qualifying coverage you'll see what I mean.

the ALMS bubble will burst soon, there's way too much money going into that series and not enough coming out.

I 2nd Long Beach. I went to a couple of races in the 80's.

I live in Long Beach now. Its actually pretty nice waking up to the sounds of the cars screaming around the streets. My wife doesnt know what to make of it, but its music to me. Obviously unrealistic.

Vegas would be great though.

This is my first post as well. I love F1, and can't stand NASCAR either. I simply don't understand what's fun about running around in circles.

Let me tell you all that going to an F1 race weekend has been one of my dream for a long time now, and I was supposed to go this year to Indy but had an event that weekend. Lucky me!!!, but still got angry with what happened. Not fair for any fan out there, specially for those who travelled from long distance just for the opportunity to watch an F1 race, probably the only one they had. But I don't balme the Michelin teams either, they did what they needed to do. Although I believe Michelin is the sole guilty on this matter for not providing adequate tires, the FIA doesn't didn't make it easier either. I understand there were rules they needed to follow, but the sport, safety and fans come first. Using the chicane was not going to be for any advantage to the Michelin teams, they were only going to be able to race, that's it. Look at Paul Stoddart, even though he is from a Bridgestone team, he still supported the other teams. The FIA has been wrong this last years, and now they are jeopardizing the sport to continue as it is after 2008. I don't want a breakway, but I am totally behind the teams complaining. Anyway, that is subject for another discussion.

Going back to the main subject, F1 will be stay here in the US for good (assuming there is no breakaway on 2008) simply because F1 needs the US, and the US still doesn't grasp how it needs F1. Otherwise, we will keep thinking racing is about going in circles at all times.

I believe having a street race in Las Vegas, making it a 2nd Monaco would be superb. However, it is to my understanding that the FIA (not sure about the teams) doesn't like street circuits and they just keep Monaco for mere tradition. Bottom line, I truly believe Las Vegas will help improve F1 in US since it is already prepared to host an event of such magnitude plus it has the internationality the a sport like F1 needs.

Sorry for making this post so long.

I heard that indianapolis motor speedway's contract with formula one is up sometime in the next two years. I think they need to bring it to phoenix where i live. The heat would make a big challenge for the tires
