My car was about to explode. Let me explain this and all the help will be appreciated.
I found a big puddle of antifreeze in the parking lot of the supermarket; it came from my Olds cutlass 90 6V3.3L. I went to buy new antifreeze and I poured it into the radiator. I drove the car to my house and parked on the street, the temperature light went off and the car and engine was pretty hot.
I called my handy-man mechanic friend (he can do almost anything in the car, but not really difficult car jobs) and after checking the radiator and the hoses, he said that the water pump was broken, and he could replace if i buy a new one, (we used water to test the radiator and left the water inside). Ii needed to buy the new one at the auto part store, so I asked him if I could drive the car to the store in that condition, and he said -just make sure you have water or antifreeze in the radiator-, well I left to the store and after 3 miles the car started to accelerate very fast, the engine service light went on and the car was acting crazy, I pulled the car over to the side of the street and waited for 15 minutes, checked the water and add some more, after 20 minutes the car was fine, but pretty hot, and I went home.
My question is this, is there is a high probability of explosion if i drive the car after changing the water pump? How can I make sure that after changing the pump, the car wont explode on me, I don’t feel safe driving this car anymore.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you for your time
God bless you

My car does the same thing...It's not my water pump though. I was told it's my head gaskets...As long as the reservoir has water/coolant in it at all times then it's ok to drive.
I'm not sure about the explosion thing...I doubt it..I'm not a mechanic or anything but I've read all of the posts on here and gained some knowledge from it...
You might wanna fix that asap and if you're still having issues then take a look at your head gaskets.

Thank you for the reply.
Are you talking about the water pump gasket , I have a new water pump to install with the gaskets. What do you mean with you might wanna fix that asap, you mean the water pump or the head gasket.
where is the head gasket located?
I will talk to my mechanic about it as soon as you give me an answer.
Thank you...

The water pump and head gaskets are two different things. I would say to fix the water pump and if you still have the problem then check out your head gaskets.
I don't exactly know where they're located...My mechanic told me about it then I read on here for a second opinion so I believed it was my head gaskets. I don't actually do my own work...My friend is doing it for me for A LOT less than my mechanic would.
If you do need your head gaskets done, I suggest you either do them yourself or have a close friend do them because they cost a lot in labor for a mechanic. The part itself doesn't cost much but its like a two-day job I've heard...
I'd say contact your mechanic and go from there...Good luck!

The car is fixed, it was the water pump only, my friend check the head gasket and it look good. He only charged me $30 buck, nice, eh?
