1991 Euro 3.1 Torque Strut Question

Hey guys, my brother was looking at my car last night and noticed that my torque struts rubber were cracked. The rubber that the bolt is going through on the dogbone? you know what i mean i hope. Im just wondering, Can these rubber mounts just be replaced. or do you have to replace the entire dogbone as 1 piece. Because if i can just replace the rubber on it this would make my life easier.

Another question would be I have a what looks like a vaccum line running from back of the engine passenger side, over the throttle body, down under the air intake, right into the transaxle. Now the question is what is that line, since the rubber boot at the bottom of the line has a nice sized hole in it from wear and tear. I have been getting gears sticking, and i also been losing a lot more Tranny fluid. So anything you guys know would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure if you can just replace the rubber, but the entire mount is only about 11 or 12 bucks from your parts retailer. or you can go for some higher performance dogbones made out of billet alumium with polyurethane bushings that reduce engine torque roll even more (more torque to the ground where we need it).

That line to your transmission is a vacuum line. Our transmissions are controlled by a vacuum modulator. Where are you losing tranny fluid from? is it coming from the same place where the vacuum line goes? That would mean the diaphragm in your modulator is shot. and yes, you should replace that little piece of rubber hose at the end of the steel line.

Yea i was sure it was a Vac mod, my brother tried to tell me that it was electronic. i dont believe him too much. Im not sure where the fluid is comming from. But i know for a fact that both my Oil pan gasket and my Tranny pan gasket are bad, the tranny i just tightend up a little more and i think it stopped. but its been a lil while. I just need to get a new one. and put the old fluid thats in there in the tranny again to avoid problems.

Any idea where to get that rubber boot from? im thinking autozone since its right here. But im not sure what its really called. or what to tell them. I might just take my car in there and pull one of the workers outside and point lol.

Thanks much Manny boy. i appreciate the help.

Just the right size vacuum hose will do you just fine... and your brother may be partially right - it depends on which transmission you have: 4t60 is not computer controlled - 4t60E is. If you have a 3.4 engine, you should have 4t60E, if you have a 3.1 you probably have a 4t60.

even still, the 4t60E still has a vacuum mod...

edit...ok I just looked at the thread title again... you did say 3.1 (duh on me for not reading better  )

The hose itself is okay, its teh boot thats attached to the end of it. The hose pretty much is normal, then it has a piece of plastic on it that a boot connects on. The boot itself is about maybe 3 inches long with a flat bottom and about 1 inch long on the bottom piece and about half an inch wide on the bottom piece (boot) the boot also has a hole for a bolt to go in. but i just dunno what that is called haha..

Good job on the title. Your only human we all make mistakes. Unless your one of those robits!!!! lol.. i doubt that.

Thanks much for the help. if anyone has a idea what the boot thingie is called or where to get my hands on one please tell me before i go crazy haha.

Plus autozone has Torque Struts for $25 Ea.

They are Anchor brand, with a lifetime warranty.
