82 Diesel Rabbit alternator

Hello all - I have an 82 Rabbit diesel which is giving me some electrical mysteries. I've just done a new battery and alternator but I'm finding now that I can't get the alternator to charge the battery. It seems to charge the engine fine, just not the battery. I'm thinking a short somewhere along the way but can't seem to find it.

Hoping someone out there may have some other ideas - thanks in advance

have the alternator output checked. it does not take much, in the way of electricity, to keep these engines running. most parts stores can check the altenator without removing it from the engine.
