You could get a 05 LS for way cheaper the 16k.
And I would say definately pass on the 108k 94 auto. Maybe some wheels and a drop, but dont invest a fortune. Save for something a bit higher up on the "nice" scale.

with all the GM discounts you could probably get that 16k car for closer to 10k-12k

are you kidding me? upgrading that piece of shit is the worst idea ever. It will cost atleast 2 grand to make it as fast as the 2005 LS. Not to mention you should be able to get a 2005 LS for around 9-10K. They sell for cheap, 16k is a rip off.

Piece of what? :cya: I've had mine over five years now and while I admit there has been a decent amount of maintenance, it has been a great car. I'd rather pay 2 grand and upgrade the older model. It's still ALOT cheaper than buying a new car and paying for full coverage insurance. How are you gonna mod a 05 with those payments? Unless you're lucky rich, which would be nice for a change!

upgrading old cars is the worst idea ever, especially the 2.2L. That engine got named one of the 10 worst 4 banger engines of all time for a reason. With the money you spend fixing up an old beat up cavalier you could use to have a nice one. Its not like its hard. I pay 130 a month for my 01 Cavalier. My insurance is 200. Im not rich. Why spend all your money on some old out dated car thats rusting and falling apart? THe older a car gets, the more money it cost to keep it.

Well thats not necessarily true. Old hot rods can be cheap as dirt to keep running. And they are way cooler too.

AMEN! $340 a month would kill me. Some new cars cost more to maintain then older ones. -Jayson-, where did you hear that the old 2.2L is one of the 10 worst 4 bangers?

on the cost topic, it costs me 245$ a month with 8.5% on a 6 year loan, and insurance is 225$ a month. since they didnt charge me for the first two months they decided to charge me 371$ for 4 months, and yes, living on my own with all those bills is taking its toll. out of 2 months ive had enough to get an intake... well not really, i got it on plastic :(.

$157 a month for 5 years, but I pay about $300 a month with the excpetion of May when I made a $1000 payment. I have no idea how much my insurance is since its mixed in with my parents cars. I just give em $100 every month and be done with it. I'm interested to see what my payments/insurance will be on a new cobalt.

Wait a sec... The LS version of the Cavalier is the sporty version with the 15" aluminum wheels and the power sunroof and whatnot, right? If so, you definitely cannot get it for $9000. The cheapest you can get a brand new Cavalier anywhere in the US would be about $11,000 after taxes and all other expenses, but that would be the absolute base model. The LS would be a few grand more.

I'm with Jayson, get the new car. And yes actually you probably could get a new Cavy for that cheap. My advice: get a year or two old used one. There was a 04 with like 20k in the paper today for like $8000, but then again, I know nothing about the newer Cavy's though. Is there any advantages to a 05 over an 04 or 03?

I got my loaded LS Sport for $11,800 out the door. It stickered for $18,300. That was a couple years before the employee discount. I saw that listing about the 2.2 OHV being one of the worst engines ever. I believe it was in Hot Rod magazine. They don't exactly know much about 4 cylinder engines. There are much worse engines out there (GM 3.1/3.4 V6 with the leaking intake gasket manifolds comes to mind off the top of my head), just be careful with the headgasket, would be my advice. How to be careful? I don't know, just keep an eye on coolant usage, I guess. I had one go on a '90 2.2 that was my wife's car, and it wasn't exactly driven hard. The engine was trouble free until the head gasket went around 200,000 miles, so I wouldn't say they are one of the worst engines ever. Other engines like the 2.2 Eco or 2.4 Twin Cam have more performance potential, of course. But you can turbo a 2.2 OHV and make it run. Its all up to you. What do YOU want to do.

Congrats! You just got yourself a 2.4 DOHC, enjoy! Last night I saw a 01 Z24 with 64,000mi in the local paper for $7,600.
:2cents:
So, you are all paying about $300-350 a month for a newer Cav. I pay $40 a month for insurance, that's all. So if I had a new Cav and could afford to pay $300 a month, I'd sell it and buy a second gen for around $1000 and put that $300 month into upgrades! :evillol: But that's just me. I like the third gen look and availability of parts, but why pay so much for a car I want to mod if I can't afford to mod it due to payments/ins? I think I'll start saving up for that LD9 swap now... :naughty:

I've secured a 2003 LS Sport. I have to drive 230 miles for this particular one but its only got 17,500 miles and is 8,800. Factory Warranty still on it. I'm paying the full asking price because its so hard to find a damn yellow with a 5 speed tranny around here! My payments to the bank will be 181 a month at 7.4% a month I believe and insurance I'm not sure as it will be with my parent's insurance until I turn 19.
