Hello, i recently picked up a 89 CRX DX for $900. 5 speed, 161k miles. engine runs strong, the brakes were bad (rear wheel cylinders were blown, $700 fix :frown: ) and the clutch seems to be going. i have to let the clutch almost all the way out before it engages. i tried tightening the clutch cable thingy but that didnt work. also, this is probably unrelated, but the tranny is leaking out of where the shift linkage goes in the back, so is the clutch on its way out? also i notice that when im smashing on it hard (i.e. shifting at like 5k) it will grind a little going into 2nd and 3rd. so basically my question is:
What is most likely the problem? the clutch is going out? and how much does a clutch job cost?
oh yeah and one of the struts in front squeaks but that will have to wait :(
thanks in advance for helping this Honda Noob

Holy shit you spent 700 on wheel cylinders. Shifting at 5k is not "smashing on it hard", thats not even redline. With you spending 700 on wheel cylinders theres no telling what it would cost for you to have a clutch replaced.

Could be the clutch, my friends integra did the same thing, he just bought a new clutch cable and it fixed the problem, it was just because the cable was stretched out. But yea 700 to replace wheel cylinders was rediculus. You could of just went to a salvage yard and picked up some for maybe a $100 at the most.

Hey fierangero
not sure how mechanically inclined u are..but seriously these civic/crx's are like the easiest cars i ever worked on. Get yourself a Helms manual and study it a little bit, and maybe u can start doing ur own work on ur user friendly honda :iceslolan and if u choose to have sum1 else do your work.. definately try getting a few different price quotes first!! i would never spend that kinda money on my car to repair anything. i woulda got myself a DOHC zc engine or a sohc vtec  goodluck man
livinincalifornia u spent $500 for axles? what the fuck lol are they like b-series 800hp axles or what

oh yeah and what would a clutch job cost, im currently working on one car already so i dont have the time nor the energy to do it myself

i remember spending $500 on rear brakes on my old nissan truck. it was like meineke that did it for me though. i learned my lesson about letting others work on my car that day, though. never again unless i simply cannot do it myself.

thanks 91 civ, yeah its gonna be hot, if i ever get it runnin. i think all im gonna do to the ReX is intake and exhaust, since it will be my DD. but, i need to get it reliable first, so that means clutch, and probably shocks/struts soon, and get the heater/AC workin (any ideas why it only blows outside air, not any hotter or colder no matter what i set it at?)
