Hello I am new to the camaro scene. Just got a 1988 with 2.8L and 5 speed manual tranny. I got a 5.7L I want to put in it. Will the tranny bolt up to it? and what about motor mounts? How much work is this going to be? What type of rear end came in this car, would it be advisable to put one from a 85 berlinetta in it? Thanks for any help!

Well thanks for the answer on the other post, i didn't think it got posted, got kicked of line while submitting it. That's why I got this one, what do you mean my 5 speed won't survive?

the five speed wont survive behind the 350, the berlinetta rear will be no different than what you have, if you want to buy a rear to intall, get one out of a Z28 or other V8 equipped camaro. the motor mounts are different, the cooling system is different, fuel delivery is different, computer controls are different, wiring harness is different. its a big project to be sure.

was there a year of camaros that had a 305 or 350 that were equipped with a manual tranny? if so what was the model number of it?

the 305 camaros were given the same weak in the knee's five speed that you have in your 2.8, and they die behind the 350 as well. thats why chevy never offered a five speed in a 350 camaro or firebird from the factory. The only transmissions that 350s had were the 700R4 automatic.

I think you'll also have change some suspension parts in the front. Your car is set up for a lighter motor. It will not sit right with the heavier 350.
