Chevy Cobalt
CARNIGG

I dont know what happened. Chevy put a lot of thought into this car, in the interior only it seems. It's gotta be one of the best interiors I've ever seen in a Chevy. From what I read in Car&Driver....this is Chevy last try at competing in the small car segment with the Civic..Focus...ect. So my question is this...why make the exterior on the 4 door bland as hell...i mean BLAND AS HELL. The coupe looks somewhat better. If it had an exterior to compliment that beautiful interior then maybe I would see more than 1 a week. And Im in San Diego, when a new car comes out...people jump on them If ANYONE from GM is lookin at this "re-style the cobalt!!!"....it'll do a whole lot better. If need be, go to the to the design team of the new G6. Now thats a goodlookin car!!!

Looks like they're trying to put to much Cadillac styling into it. It's almost like a mini version of the CTS.

Dude....that's the picture in his sig...it has nothing to do w/ the thread....that IS a CTS.
IMO Cobalt looks a hell of a lot better than the G6, G6 looks like a Neon w/ a Grand Prix front bumper. I don't think anyone from Chevy would care to listen to an internet forum, but you keep trying. Also, screw the exterior, wtf is up w/ the supercharged vehicles that run 15's? that's garbage, they should have at least broken in to mid-14's for the public.

The Cobalt looks retarded in my opinion and I can careless for anything made by Chevy or GM. They tried to make the front look like an RSX and the rear look like a Skyline, WTF?!?!

[sarcasm_on]Yeah because you know the competitors aren't bland at all. The Civic just makes my blood rush, the Neon, oh man that car is so stylish, it makes a washing machine look terrible, the Ford Focus, damn I think I'm going to have a heart attack..... They all are so stylish I don't know what to do. [Sarcasm_off]

the Cobalt is another peice of GM crap. they were trying to capitalize on the sucess of the Civic, Neon, etc. but its just too damn boring. its like a copy of all of their other cars. i dont know what those guys are thinking at GM but they need to get some people in there who know how to style cars. i mean come on. i dont want a boring car that looks like everything else and runs like crap on top of that, plus i get no service.

As I said above, the competition doesn't look to exciting. The Cobalt is not a warmed over Cavalier as said above, if you think that, you haven't done much research on this car. The Engine, very reliable engine that has been modified to produce outrageous amounts of HP without many major modifications, and ran reliably at these numbers. The engine is a very solid engine. I've seen these engines with 250,000 plus miles on them....

still a warmed over cavalier
on a side note, im trying to figure out how the cobalt ss's twin, the ion redline, can weigh more even though it has plastic body panels. i guess extra body stiffeners but im not sure.

Or you could always just explain to him that the delta-platform is completely different from the J-Body platform. Two totally different cars.
Hell, GM doesn't even have a cavalier replacement, they have two. The Cavalier covered the entry-level compact prior to 06. Now that has been split into value-compact and sport-compact filled with the aveo and cobalt, respectively.
And before you go complaining that it's a warmed over cavalier again, remember that none of the problems from the cavy exist in the cobalt. Refined interior, no wind noise...and for god's sake the dash doesn't rattle. On the down side, the damn engine bay is basically SCULPTED around the ecotec, which kinds shoots motor swaps out the window.

thx for the info. i wonder when chevy will enter them in SCCA vs TSXs and bmws. it would be nice to see a direct comparison between a new car and already proven cars, to see how good a job GM did.

So you think RSXs and Skylines are ugly? It's about time GM got around to this segment after ignoring it for too long. Thing is the Civc and Focus dominate the market and are two of the best selling cars in the world and it may be a case of too little too late. Though you can buy a Chevy Aveo, a Daewoo without the 10year/100,000 mile warranty! I don't care for this segment yet I think it is a well built car and hopefully it can save GM.

Aveo already a best-seller
GM hasn’t done a serious study yet on the business case for the Matiz, Reilly said. But he figures sales of at least 20,000 a year are needed to make it viable. GM could decide to import the Matiz as early as late 2005, he said.
GM’s smallest car currently is the Chevrolet Aveo, also built in Korea by GM Daewoo. The hatchback version of the Aveo, the best-selling compact car on the U.S. market, is 153 inches long and the car gets up to 35 miles per gallon on the highway. Reilly expects North American sales of the Aveo to grow from 70,000 last year to as many as 100,000 this year.

The cavalier was alirght, from what I have seen from the cobalt its alot better though. I would need someone to explain that rear suspension to me, I was told it was good but it looked like the cavaliers to me although the cobalts is curved. My only advice is to not get on a smart lease, theres nothing smart about it.

Restyled yes but the chassis was ancient. The Cobalt is a much better vehicle light years ahead of the Cavalier. It was a segment GM was getting killed in by the Civic, Focus and to a lesser extent the Neon. It was a good move on GM's part, IMO.

I have no problems with the car. The Ecotec is a stellar economy car motor, the five-speed manual hooked up to it is nice enough to shift, and the styling, exterior and interior, is up to par. It's not going to run circles around the competition, but it'll keep up with them. I just hope that they put more effort into making a quality car with the Cobalt than they did with the Cavalier. Not to say that the Cobalt is mechanically similar to the Cavalier, but it essentially replaced it, and it fills the same market niche.

Depending on price not sure which is a better value. Though I'd easily agree that the SRT is a better performer.
